Are leggings pants? According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, the definition of pants is “a piece of clothing usually reaching from the waist to the ankle and covering each leg separately.” To my knowledge, leggings do just that!
Of course, there is the argument that leggings are too tight and too thin of a material to be pants. Well, heck to that! It’s not like you’re walking around without pants at all. Everything is covered when you’re wearing leggings. Shorts are considered pants and they don’t even cover your entire leg, so I think any other argument is invalid.
I have jeans that are just as tight as my leggings and sometimes, when I have to trudge across campus at 7:30 in the morning jeans are just not an option. Leggings are comfortable, easy, and can be used for tons of outfits, not to mention the fact that your booty looks extra good in them! From working out to going out on the town leggings are perfect for any occasion. If leggings aren’t pants then explain to me how so many outfits can be created with them! Leggings are perfect for going on runs outside when the weather is still a little chilly. Running in sweatpants is possible, but if the legs of the pants aren’t tapered the cold wind will find its way up your leg. That isn’t a problem if you run in leggings! All the sportswear models look great running in leggings, so why can’t you?
Leggings can be dressed up and made into a fantastic ‘ladies’ night look.’ Throw on a nice flowy top or a fierce crop-top along with your leggings. Put on your favorite pair of strappy heels or booties and strut your stuff!
Leggings can also be dressed down! Throw a hoodie on in the morning along with your leggings and have extra time to make your coffee just the way you like it. Plus, if you’re already in a comfy hoodie and leggings outfit, when you get home all you have to do is throw on some fuzzy socks and you’re ready to binge watch your favorite Netflix series.
It is so easy to look super cute and functional in leggings. Throw an oversized chunky sweater and some combat boots and you look adorable but you’re also super comfortable, so it’s a win-win situation.
You can put on your snazziest baseball tee and your favorite pair of converse and throw on a baseball hat for a casual, sporty look.
I could go on and on about how many outfits can be put together with leggings, but the real reason leggings are pants is because people wear them. Confidence is the best accessory someone can wear, and if a piece of clothing made of a thinner material that clings a little tighter makes you feel like a rock star then who cares what anyone else says. After all, clothing doesn’t define anyone as a person! If you’re confident and happy in the clothes you’re in (whether it be jeans, leggings, a dress or a skirt), then I see no reason to change anything.
