5 Affordable Fans To Keep You Cool In The Summer Months

Summer is fast approaching, and you might find yourself needing a way to beat the heat. Luckily I’ve gathered up a list of 5 affordable dorm fans to keep you cool.

1. Vornado VFAN Mini Circulator.

Our first dorm fan is the Vornado VFAN Mini Air Circulator. This stylish, retro-style table fan will run you about 40 dollars on Amazon. The main draws of this fan, in my opinion, are its reliability, compact form factor, and aesthetic design. With two speed settings and 6 feet of cord, this compact fan is a solid choice for workspaces and other personal areas, and it’s pretty light at only 3 pounds. The sturdy metal frame has a retro design, making it a very solid pick if you want something stylish without sacrificing practicality and durability. It also has a 5-year warranty, a testament to the manufacturer’s confidence in the reliability of their products. However, I still feel as though its style is the main draw. It has a much more appealing visual design than most other fans, which earns it some major points with me. It’s not often that a table fan can earn you compliments, but this is one of those times. I only wish that this design came in more colors than just green.

2. Vornado Duo Small Room Tower Fan.

Our second dorm fan is another Vornado offering, and has a similar price point at around 40 dollars on Amazon. However, this one focuses much more on function rather than form. This compact fan’s unique selling point is the fact that it can be placed in two different ways. You can have the fan standing upright as a small-footprint tower fan, or lay it down horizontally for a lower profile. Despite its small size, this fan can effectively circulate air up to 50 feet away, and has four easily adjustable power settings. For this particular product, the versatility and functionality are the main draws, and the fan also brings the reliability that Vornado products are known for. It’s ability to cool an entire room while maintaining a compact and unobtrusive form-factor make it ideal for dorm rooms, apartments, or other smaller living spaces. It’s not the prettiest thing in the world, but it doesn’t stick out enough to offend. I’d say it’s a very solid pick for a college student or recent graduate who wants a fan with good performance and a long service life.

3. Holmes 16-Inch Oscillating Stand Fan.

Our third dorm fan is a great low-cost option, only costing half the price of the previous two entries on the list. The 16 inch oscillating stand fan by Holmes will only run you about 24 dollars from Best Buy, and it’s highly rated by many customers. If you want a great fan on a tighter budget, look no further. Aside from its affordability, this fan is actually somewhat stacked with features considering its price point. It has 3 speeds to ensure the comfort of the user, and the ability to cool a wide area with its five-bladed design and wide-range oscillation. One of its more noteworthy features is breeze mode, allowing it to simulate gentler and more natural airflow, making it perfect for dorm rooms on hot summer nights. The fact that it’s made from durable metal ensures that it won’t break down easily, and will last you a good few years provided you don’t actively try to destroy it. It’s also fairly lightweight and easy to assemble and has adjustable height and direction so you can be sure to get the most out of it. The only problem is that it is a purely functional design and not exactly a conversation-starter.

4. CONBOLA 11.8 Inch Bladeless Desk Fan.

Dorm fan number four is really something special for several reasons. The first reason is that it’s the first fan on this list to feature a bladeless hoop design, immediately earning it a decent boost in style points. The second is that it’s the only fan on this list to be entirely portable. This small yet stylish fan is battery-powered, letting you use it to not only cool your dorm or apartment, but also your workspace or study area if you bring it along. It features a high-capacity battery with USB charging capability, letting you bring it anywhere and use it for a long time. The fan is also very quiet in comparison to other fan designs, making it great for keeping cool at night or when trying to focus on work. And It manages to pack all of this functionality into a lightweight and stylish form-factor. The bladeless loop design and metallic highlights make the fan into an aesthetically pleasing device that fits well into a variety of rooms and decoration themes. But the real kicker is that you get all this functionality for just 35 dollars on Amazon. What’s not to love?

5. MEPTY Bladeless Tower Fan.

Our final dorm fan is the most expensive on the list, costing about 45 dollars on Amazon. However, it is the most feature-packed and high-spec fan on the list, so you are getting your money’s worth. It has a slim, tower-style form factor, making it rather unobtrusive for its size. The real draw of this fan, however, is the level of functionality. This fan is the only one on the list that has remote control functionality, letting you control it from basically anywhere in the room. It also comes with 3 modes, so you can choose how forcefully it operates depending on your tastes. The timer function allows you to set how long you want it to be working for, and the oscillation function has three speed settings. It’s easy to set up and move around, so it won’t be too much of an issue if you find yourself needing to move after graduation. The bladeless design is also safer than a bladed design if you have a small pet. Overall, this gives you incredible value for your money, and is a solid investment.
