10 Essentials Every Freshman Fashionista Needs
My first year at college, I wasnāt really sure what to bring in terms of makeup or clothes, so I ended up bringingĀ everything I had. Turns out, I didnāt needĀ at least half of the thingsĀ I brought! I found myself going back to the same items over and over again. From my experience, you only need a few essentials, and you can build outfits and looks from those pieces. Youāll still have a wide variety to choose from for any occasion. Stick with the basics so that you don’t go overboard packing. Keep reading for the top 10Ā fashion and beauty essentials you actually NEEDĀ as a freshman fashionista!
1. White Blouse
A white blouse is staple sinceĀ it looks good with everything. You can pair it withĀ any bottom or accessorizeĀ to create any lookĀ you want. It can be a casual piece for everyday wear, or you can dress it up for those times when you need to look more put together.
2. A Good Pair of Jeans
Letās be honest, who doesnāt end up wearing the same pair of jeans almost every dayĀ because theyāre the ones that make your legs lookĀ the best, or that feel the best on your hips? Personally, I prefer a high-waisted fit because it elongates yourĀ legs. Sometimes I wear themĀ with a top tucked and other times untucked for a totally different look.
3. Suit Pants
Suit pants are a young professional essential. Chances are that in college you might have to do a serious presentation or have a job interview. Pants and a blouse are the best outfit toĀ impress any audience. Also, if you join an organization, they might have events you need to dress up for, and suit pants are an easy way to doĀ that.
4. Brown Sandals
Like most of these pieces, brown sandals are a good staple to have in yourĀ closet to add variety. Get a nice simpleĀ pair that doesnāt look too casual, so that way they can beĀ used for all kinds of situations. Whether itās sorority recruitment or just a nice day onĀ campus, brown sandals are sure to add depth and style to your closet.
5. Cute Hat
Whether youāre a baseball cap kind of girl, or a big floppy hat is more your style, there areĀ going to be days when youāre lazy, or you wake up late and donāt want to deal with your hair. A hat is the best way toĀ cover up your messy hairĀ and move on with your routine.
6. Moisturizer
If thereās one beauty product I say you need, itās moisturizer. Itās important to keepĀ your skin clean and healthy, and the right moisturizer will give your skin that healthy glow; so ifĀ you want to go bare-faced, you can still feel confident about your skin. It keeps your skin hydrated and also is a great base if you choose to wear foundation.
7. Setting Spray
No matter if itās a long day of classes, a night out, or aĀ combination of both, setting spray is an absolute essential. Most of us tend to get oily throughout the day,Ā and setting spray will keep your makeup intact and is a great tool to use so you donāt have toĀ worry about what you look like after an eight-hour day.
8. Dry Shampoo
Like I said with hats, there will be days when you wake up and donāt want toĀ spend time washing your hair, and dry shampoo is the best way to skip that time in your morning routine. Dry shampoo is also a great way to give hair texture, and using dry shampoo on second-day hair makes it a lot easier to style.
9. Makeup Wipes
If thereās one thing I can pride my beauty routine on, itās always taking off myĀ makeup at the end of the night. Itās so important that you have makeup wipes because if you sleep in your makeup, it can clog your pores and can cause your skin to look not as healthy as itĀ would if you took a few minutes to remove your makeup and wash your face.
10. Mineral Powder
If you have oily skin, using a powder is probably something youāre used to, andĀ thereās definitely a difference throughout the day if you use a powder compared to if you donāt.Ā Itās a great way to set your makeup and make sure you donāt get any oily spots, and you can take it along with you to touch up throughout the day.
