Top Five Ways To Use Coconut Oil In Your Beauty Routine

The ways to use coconut oil are endless and so are the benefits you get for doing so. Coconut oil is packed with fatty acids and vitamins that can provide many benefits when you introduce it into your own beauty routine. From de-frizzing hair, a moisturizing scrub and even lip balm its easy to see why coconut oil is so praised for being very versatile. Below are my top five ways to use coconut oil in my own beauty regimen.

1. A Deep Conditioning Mask

Using coconut oil as a deep condition hair mask will benefit any type or texture of hair. All you do is simply saturate your hair from root to tip and allow it to sit for at least one hour. I personally allow it to sit overnight and wash it out in the morning because having curly hair I need all the moisture I can get. In addition to the coconut oil, you can also mix it with other ingredients or essential oils to make a stronger concoction. The coconut oil will help de-frizz hair, help it grow, and nourish the scalp naturally all at once. It contains many vitamins and fatty acids that will cater to your scalp and also remove product build-up. This is a very simple routine you should aim to do at least once a month, but after one use you’ll want to use it every day, which is okay too. If you want to use coconut oil in your hair every day just simply use a small amount on wet or dry hair. Massage into hair and style as usual.

2. In Your Bath

I adore my bath time even as an adult. I find this is a great place for me to relax and destress from life. This is usually my time to sit back and relax while I enjoy a book or just enjoy the tranquility of a warm bath by myself.  I am also a huge fan of multitasking therefore I add coconut oil to my bath every time. While I am relieving stress, the coconut oil is naturally moisturizing my skin. I usually put 2-3 tablespoons in my bath along with Epsom salt or a bath bomb. The coconut oil does not take away the results of the bath bombs or Epsom salt either. I typically add on or the other to my bath because I don’t find the coconut oil to have a strong enough smell, but I love the softness of my skin afterward.

3. Your Own Exfoliating Scrub

Another favorite of ways to use coconut oil is by making it into my own exfoliating scrub. Many products that are on shelves irritated my skin and can leave me feeling dry and itchy after because they seem too abrasive. Coconut oil has fatty acids that make it a natural anti-fungal and contains vitamin E to help lock in the moisture for softer and younger-looking skin. There are many different recipes to make your own scrub, but I prefer the feel of either sugar or brown sugar because I find that they are not as rough.

Easily melt about a cup of coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Once the oil is melted add your choice of sugar or salt until you get the consistency that you desire. I like a thinker solution because I find it easier to handle in the shower. After mixing thoroughly I usually store in an airtight container such as a Tupperware bowl until I am ready to use it. The scrub is great for your body and taking off dead skin, leaving your skin feeling velvety smooth. Also, the scrub is great to use before you shave because it takes away the dead skin cells resulting in a smooth and close shave.

4. Lip Balm

Being a simple girl, I prefer simple makeup. Also, living in a region that harsh cold winters, and at times brutal summers can have a major impact on some of the most delicate places on my face. I am prone to dry and chapped lips due to weather conditions that are not so nice. Instead of reaching for a chapstick that feels too heavy on my lips, I make my own with coconut oil. There are many different variations of coconut oil lip balm including some with color, but I just simply place coconut oil in an old lip gloss container because I find it convenient and prefer just the coconut oil. I have melted coconut oil and mixed in a small amount of my favorite lipstick color before to have a colored lip balm as well. Again, the ways to use coconut oil for lip balms are endless.

5. Makeup Remover

There are many ways to use coconut oil that are beneficial to your beauty routine and taking makeup off is another. Instead of using harsh chemicals on your face from wipes or other facial cleansers, coconut oil is my go-to. I usually use a microfiber towel and dip it into the coconut oil to wash away eye makeup. To avoid any cross-contamination I usually store some coconut oil in a jar specifically to use to remove makeup. Honestly, you may love coconut oil so much you buy a jar for every idea listed here.

There are also ways to make your own makeup wipes that contain coconut oil and other ingredients such as baby shampoo since it is hyper-allergenic and tear-free. This method calls for a container to store them in, some disposable makeup pads and the coconut oil with other ingredients you prefer. Mix the coconut oil, baby shampoo (or preferred ingredients) together and then pour it into the container with the pads. This makes for easy storage and use. I prefer to just use coconut oil because it handles the job of removing my makeup amazingly, and I enjoy the softness of my face after.
