Being open and honest about mental health struggles is tough, especially with the stigma surrounding mental health. It’s easy to feel alone and ashamed to get the help that you need.

Selena Gomez has been an open mental health advocate for a long time now, but it was just recently that she opened up about her own personal struggles.

She opened up during an interview with Miley Cyrus where she talked about how she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She also discussed the negative stigma that comes with speaking up about mental health, and how she feels that going to therapy helped her immensely.

She also talked about how where she’s from it’s not a known thing to talk about mental health, it’s sort of something you hide and keep to yourself. A lot of people go through that, but she thinks it’s better to get it out in the open and remove the negative stigma.

Bebe Rexha struggles with bipolar disorder just like Selena Gomez and so many others in the world. She explained that she couldn’t understand herself before she got her diagnosis and that she wishes she would have gotten diagnosed sooner.

This one is for all my mommies out there suffering from postpartum depression. This is a very sensitive mental illness struggle that’s honestly very vulnerable, a lot of women tend to feel ashamed of this but the stigma needs to be removed.

Chrissy Teigen opened up about her mental health struggles with postpartum. She explained how it took a toll on her mentally and physically and how she doesn’t think it’s talked about enough. She also talked about how it’s such a huge part of women’s lives and nobody ever talks about it, she wants to break those barriers.

Taraji is an open advocate for mental health and that’s very largely due to her own personal journey with it. She even started The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation to help end the stigma around mental illness.

She believes that the stigma is due to the fact that people just aren’t talking about it enough. She believes that the more people talk about it, the more normalized it’ll become, and the easier it’ll be to live freely.

Sophie Turner has been very outspoken about her many mental health struggles which include an eating disorder, anxiety, and depression. A lot of the time many mental illnesses go hand in hand with each other.

She talks about how she was always hyper-aware of her body at a very young age which started unhealthy eating habits. This then triggered her anxiety and depression, just like it does for so many others.

She contributes herself to getting better and learning to love herself partly to therapy, and partly to her husband Joe Jonas. She is living proof that having a strong support system and being open about your struggles can be a great help.

Shawn Mendes opened up about how important it was to be honest with himself, and others about his mental health. He suffers from anxiety and he even wrote his hit song “In My Blood” about it. He talks about how the pressures he has surrounding him caused his anxiety, and he has to remember that it’s something that we all go through at some point.

Billie Eilish not only talks about her own mental health struggles but mainly the importance that speaking up has. If you feel yourself struggling it’s so important to get help and to realize that getting help is courageous and strong.

Zayn Malik has opened up about his struggles with anxiety and an eating disorder, especially when he was younger. At the beginning of his career, he talked about how he wouldn’t eat for days on end and how that negatively impacted him.

He also talked about how the pressures of his career especially at such a young age contributed to him developing anxiety. He also expressed how leaving behind the things that were stressing him was one of the best decisions of his life, and he recommends that to anyone struggling.

Another mental illness that doesn’t get talked about very often is post-traumatic stress disorder. Lady Gaga suffers from it fairly severely due to her being raped at a young age.

She also explained how she feels there’s a lot of shame attached to mental illness and she wants to inspire people to know that there’s always hope.
