10 Things You Need For Your Home Gym

As we finally return to normalcy, you might have adjusted to COVID practices over the last year and a half. Due to closures and safety measures, many, if not all gyms, across the world were closed forcing all of the gym rats to find another way to get their sweat in.

It took some adjusting, but we finally found our workout groove and found to love working out at home more than at a sweaty gym. If you are building your home gym, you will want all the essentials to get a good workout in to reach your goals. Here are 10 things you need for your home gym!

1. Dumbbell Rack

Now that you have moved into fully working out at your home gym, you might want to stock up on more dumbbells than the few that you had at first. If you’re anything like us, you just throw them on the ground next to your treadmill or yoga mat until you use them next!

Keep yourself safe and keep your area clean with a dumbbell rack that will not only display your collection of weights but keep you from rolling an ankle on a loose weight. There are many options that include dumbbells with the rack, or a rack by itself if you already have the weights!

2. Rolling Organizer

In your home gym, you’re going to be working out in a smaller space, so you want to keep all of your equipment in an organized space that is accessible during your workout. This organizer can be moved around your workout space so if you are doing a HIIT workout or an afternoon yoga flow, you won’t be tripping over your organizer.

For your organizer, you can store your sweat towels, extra headbands, hair ties, resistance bands, extra water, and anything else you need to get your sweat on! Keep an eye out for school year sales as these organizers are geared towards teachers. You might be able to snag one on sale!

3. Foam Mats

The flooring situation might not be ideal at your home gym as you will be working out on the carpet, tile, or hardwood floors. These floors can be rough on your joints, feet, and hand when building up your strength and you want to be safe while doing it!

In order to maintain your joint health, we definitely recommend foam mats and yoga mats during your workouts to keep you comfy. Amazon and other sports stores have options that can fill your space perfectly and won’t damage the floors underneath the mats!

You’ll need some yoga mats as well for those active rest days and any floor work that you do. This will add a pop of color to your space and look super cute rolled up and displayed in a basket!

4. Water Station

Meeting your health and fitness goals can be exhausting and super sweaty too! Restore that hard work on your body and keep yourself hydrated while working out at your home gym. A cute water station stocked with your favorite water and some ice will keep the beverage easily accessible to you while exercising. Display all of your water bottle collection in this station too!

5. Resistance Bands

An easy way to tone up your legs and build up your strength is with resistance bands especially when you don’t have the heavy machinery like at the gym. There are so many fun colors available that you will find something that matches your home gym.

Want to step up your leg day? Incorporate these bad boys to build up your booty and get a better sweat during your workout. Super stretchy and a good burn, what more could you ask for?!

6. Portable Fan

Whether you are doing some sweat-inducing cardio or a hot yoga flow, things will get a little toasty in your new home gym the more that you use it. If you are needing that nice breeze of fresh and cool air during your reps, this fan will do just the trick.

Also, with all of the sweat, things will get a little…moist. The fan can help to dry things up quickly before they settle into your gym floor or gym clothes. In the long run, this will help with any potential smells that might start to emerge from your home gym from all of that hard work!

7. Dry Erase Board

A fun way to display your workouts and another way to decorate your new home gym is with a dry erase board. This is the perfect way to display some motivational quotes to keep you going during your workout. If you are following a workout plan in your home gym, you can write down all of the details that are going to get you to your health goals!

8. Foam Roller

After working out those muscles and building your strength, it is only natural that you treat yourself for all of that hard work! The perfect way to recover from your workouts is to foam roll after your workout or even on your rest and recovery days.

There are numerous benefits to foam rolling after your workouts and hard work. Displaying them with the rest of your mats and equipment should be easy as your build your collection of dumbells and bands!

9. Small TV or Tablet

If you are needing some guidance in your training and workouts, YouTube and other platforms are going to be your new BFFs! To make things easier as you follow along with your digital instructors, a small TV or tablet would be a great addition to your home gym setup.

Not only can you stream your workouts from here, but if you are spending time on the treadmill or need some tunes, the TV will help to pass the time.

10. Speakers

Now that you are working out at home, you get to listen to whatever you want to while you are working out! Whether you are in the mood for some show tunes, heavy rap, or a true-crime podcast, the choice is yours in your own gym!

A nice speaker setup will inspire you while you reach your goals. It’s up to you how quiet or how loud you want your music, you only need something to connect to your phone!
