You Are Not Getting Bigger Sizes Are Getting Smaller
How often do you go shopping, grab a bunch of cute options in your size, go to try them on, and nothing fits? To me, it happens ALL THE TIME! It is one of the most frustrating things that I encounter on a shopping trip. I’m by no means tiny. I’m plus sized, but not everywhere. There are stores where I’m just a regular XL then there are other places where I’m a 2X or 3X. This can make any person feel awful about themselves. There is one place that has “standard” sizing, which is what most manufacturers should be using.
There are multiple factory’s all around the world and there is no universal sizing. The worst is when I try to order something on Amazon, or Wish, for example, the sizes are way off. I sometimes can’t even order something because a 4X to them, is really a L to us. If you compare the three size charts, your head will spin. According to the “standard size chart” I should be a 2X, but in China, I’m bigger than a 6X and wouldn’t be able to buy anything.
Then there is this insane idea floating around that American’s are tiny, super model, stick figures, but at the same time, we have some the highest obesity rates. With that said, we all come in different shapes and sizes. I don’t want to have to go to multiple stores to get something that finally fits me. I feel terrible about myself by the time I’m done shopping. Sometimes, I don’t buy anything because I can’t find something that actually fits or looks decent.
Finally, it is not you, or me, our anyone else that is getting bigger. The sizes are getting smaller. In the ’50s, curvy was beautiful. Now, we have this crazy notion that thinner is prettier. There are people who have thyroid conditions, metabolic conditions, and other hormone issues that makes it difficult for them to gain or lose weight. Why is the sizing making it so difficult for those people? Why can’t it just be universal? Also, some of the numbers, forget it. What in the world is a 32? I don’t know. Why are some sizes UK? I understand that they may come from there, but if you’re going to export to the United States, please have our sizing on it as well. In case you’re wondering, in size 6 in the US is not a size 6 in the UK, nor is it a size 6 in China.
