As any TCU student knows, the ability to call yourself a Horned Frog comes with a pretty hefty price tag. With tuition, parking, a meal plan, housing, and general living expenses, the bills can start to add up, leaving little room for play. Thankfully, TCU doesn’t just leave us all hanging with empty wallets. Located in beautiful Fort Worth, Texas, TCU has no short supply of inexpensive ways to have a lit time and keep your bank account happy. Here are seven things to do when you’re broke AF at Texas Christian University.
If you’re one of the blessed individuals with access to a car, your activity options increase exponentially. Fort Worth is chock-full of places to explore and check out. Between the Stockyards, Trinity Park, the Water Gardens, The Zoo, and West 7th (just to name a few), adventure is in no short supply.
TCU is right down the road from some of the country’s greatest museums and historic buildings. Check out the Sid Richardson museum, The Kimbell Art Museum, or The Amon Carter Museum of American Art for a quick and inexpensive way to get your art history fill.
Grab a buddy, put on some sweet sneaks, and make sure you’ve got your ID. The recreation center on TCU’s campus, affectionately known as The Rec, is more than just a gym. With the pool, ping pong tables, pool tables, the basketball/volleyball courts, and even the rock climbing wall, The Rec is one of the best places for even the most unathletic individual on a budget to get active and have some fun.
Part of TCU’s charm is their unwavering trust in their students. Between the grand pianos that are randomly placed throughout campus for students to show off their skills, and the unlimited ice cream in the Bluu, TCU has no problem trusting their young students with expensive gifts. This includes the recently $164 million reconstructed football stadium. Most of time, the great Amon G. Carter Stadium’s gates are wide open, available for students to hang out in the stands and toss a football around on the field.
As a TCU student, you have access to a number of discounts and free admission passes. In the south side of the Bluu sits the Box Office, TCU’s hub for all things entertainment. Six fFags, AMC, The Fort Worth Zoo, and Medieval Times, are just a few places you can flash that perfect purple ID and get in for less.
Literally. Right down University Dr. is the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. If you’re looking for an inexpensive but still totally fun way to pass the time, take a walk through the different gardens for the low price of free and take some sick Instagram pics.
