5 Ways To Make Hummus That Are Both Fun And Delicious

As we all know, hummus is the food of the gods. Not only is it cheap to make, but it is fun, delicious, and probably the reason that anyone ever gets out of bed in the morning. Here, we have 5 delightfully scrumptious ways to make hummus that you’re sure to love!

Many of our hummus recipes use tahini, but sometimes tahini can be difficult to find in grocery stores. If you have a hard time finding tahini (or it’s just too expensive), never fear! You can always substitute it for creamy almond or peanut butter. But if you want to still add that delicious taste, just toss some roasted sesame seeds (you can find them at your local bulk food store) in your food processor and blend until they form a smooth paste. Voila! Cheap and easy tahini!

1. Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

For this recipe, all you need is love! And red peppers! This is a classic twist on the classic hummus recipe—the hardest part is just roasting the peppers! Everyone is sure to love this delightful hummus recipe.

Ingredients:

-2 red bell peppers (any colour is fine, but red gives it that lovely sunset orange colour!)

-1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained

-1 clove garlic

-3 tbsp tahini

-2 tbsp lemon juice, freshly squeezed

-1 tsp paprika

-1/2 tsp each salt and pepper

-2 tbsp olive oil, plus more for serving

-2-4 tbsp water

Cut your red bell peppers in half and lay them on a baking tray. Bake at 400 F for 20-25 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool. Once they are cool enough to touch, peel them and toss them in your food processor or blender.

Add the chickpeas, garlic clove, tahini, lemon juice, paprika, salt and pepper, and olive oil to the food processor or blender. Blend the ingredients at a high speed until smooth, adding the water to help with the consistency.

Scoop into a bowl and serve with olive oil on top!

2. Spinach Artichoke Hummus

You’ve heard of spinach artichoke dip and you’ve heard of hummus… now it’s time for spinach artichoke hummus! This one is a new and fun take on the classic hummus recipe that you may not have heard of before. Invite some friends over to have a girls (or boys) night in, eating this refreshing spread!

Ingredients:

-1 cup baby spinach

-3 artichoke hearts

-1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained

-1 clove garlic

-3 tbsp tahini

-2 tbsp lemon juice, freshly squeezed

-1/2 tsp each salt and pepper

-2 tbsp olive oil, plus more for serving

-2-4 tbsp water

Toss the ingredients in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth, adding water as you go to ensure a good consistency.

Scoop out into a bowl and serve with olive oil and spinach as a garnish, or add onto sandwiches as a protein-filled superfood spread! This spinach artichoke hummus is the perfect hummus to try this summer!

3. Avocado Hummus

Avocado hummus is a perfect compromise between the guacamole lovers and the hummus lovers! This recipe boasts fresh lemon juice and cumin, but guacamole spice and lime juice could be substituted for a guac-flavoured hummus. Bring this hummus to a summer BBQ as a burger topping or chip dip and impress your friends!

Ingredients:

-1 avocado

-1 jalapeno, sliced

-1/4 cup cilantro

-1 tsp cumin

-1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained

-1 clove garlic

-1 tbsp lemon juice, freshly squeezed

-1/2 tsp each salt and pepper

-2 tbsp olive oil, plus more for serving

-2-4 tbsp water

Scoop out the avocado into a food processor or blender and toss the pit and peel into the compost (or boil them later to release tannins which create a pink dye!). Add the jalapeno, cilantro, cumin, chickpeas, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper, and olive oil to the food processor or blender. Blend until smooth, adding water as you go to ensure a good consistency.

Serve in a bowl with olive oil or add a scoop to your vegan tofu burgers as a topping!

4. Southwestern Style
