10 Ways To Keep Your Kitchen Organized

Out of all the rooms in a home, the kitchen has always been the absolute worst to keep organized. More often than none, two days after you organize everything in your kitchen, Tupperware and Tupperware lids will be falling out of the cabinets. Not to mention the limited amount of counter space due to all the small appliances. Dishes piled all around not leaving room for you to fix your coffee in the morning, or cook a meal for yourself or family. The kitchen is one of the most hated rooms in a house, because of the clutter in them. However, lucky for you there are a few simple ways to keep your kitchen organized.

1. Extra Dishes:

Look through your cabinets and drawers. If you have not used the dish or utensil in a month, throw it out or give it away. I am not talking about the serving dishes you use on the holidays. Those are for special occasions and are excluded from this rule. However, if it is damaged or you have more than necessary of a dish or utensil. There is no point and keeping it just so it can take up space. This will make a major difference in keeping your kitchen organized.

2. Dish Rack:

This dish rack is amazing. For those of you whom do not have a dishwasher in there home. This gives you back counter space, and keeps your sink clean from rust. With a built in shelf for your soap and sponges, you don’t have to worry about watermarks covering the edge of the sink. Also, the l dry over the sink, so the excess water falls back into the sink. No more wet counter tops!

3. Limited Appliances:

Coffee pot, can opener, blender, and toaster. Those are the main small appliances on kitchen counters. They are only taking away from your counter space. Pick three to have set out on the counter. The others put on a storage shelf in your pantry or cabinet, with your crockpot and other bulky countertop appliances. The reason for this is because you do not use these items every single day, but you use them enough that they do not fall in the “get rid of” rule.

4. Too Many Spices:

Save your holiday spices! Those items are good to have around the house when you need them. Unfortunately, those three large bottles of ground curry are not necessary. You should have a small cabinet or lazy Susan, that is dedicated to your spices. Go through your spices and chuck that full bottle of ground ginger you’ve had for over a year. You’re not going to use it so why keep it around?

5. BBQ Drawer:

A drawer that is solely dedicated to aluminum foil, freezer bags, sandwich bags, sauce brush, and barbecue fork. Keeping things that involve one another together is a great way to keep your kitchen organized. Why are freezer bags and sandwich bags in this drawer? Because the aluminum foil is. Those three objects involve storing food, but the aluminum foil is also involved in grilling. Hence why the barbecue fork and sauce brush are also in the drawer.

6. Utensil Cups and Magnetic Strips:

For this you can use either two utensil cups, or one utensil cup and a magnetic strip that goes on the wall. One cup is for the serving spoons and spatulas. While the other cup or magnetic strip is for your knives and I don’t mean the steak knives. One cup will stay on one side of your stove, while the other cup or magnetic strip is on the other side of the stove, or wherever your cutting board is. This frees up drawer space and allows easy access to the utensils you need while preparing a meal.

7. Silverware Drawer:

Many people already have a drawer dedicated to their silverware. However, they put nothing but the silver in it. That is not the case for this list. To free up space and keep your kitchen organized, choose a big enough drawer that will hold: silverware, steak knives, and peelers.

8. Miscellaneous Drawer:

This is not a drawer in which you shove bills, receipts, or coupons. Those things do not belong in the kitchen in the first place. This drawer is for your ice cream scoop, icing spatulas, and whisk. If you are like some people and have cough syrup syringes or cups in the kitchen, you can put them in this drawer as well. These items you use regularly but they don’t necessarily belong with the other utensils. Giving them their own drawer will keep your kitchen organized.

9. Less Tupperware:

You do not need twenty different sizes of Tupperware. There is no reason you should have week old leftovers in your fridge, to the point you have so many Tupperware containers. Having four different sizes and four containers of that size is enough. If you lose a lid or one becomes damaged, throw it out and use the three you have left of that size. Clean the leftovers out of your fridge every two to three days. That gives everyone a chance to have some if they want any before it’s thrown away. Cutting down on your Tupperware is one of the most efficient ways to keep the kitchen organized.

10. Medicine Cabinet:

Your medicine does not belong in the kitchen. There is no reason your vitamins, cough syrup, and other medications should be in the kitchen. It takes up space that could be used for something kitchen related. Take all your medicine out of the kitchen and put it in the medicine cabinet, hall closet, or even your bedroom. Just please get it out of the kitchen! Not only is this not necessary but it is also a health hazard towards yourself and your family. Clearing out that unnecessary clutter will allow you to use it for something that needs to be in a cabinet. Like your plates, cups, and bowls.
