5 Unconventional Stain Removers That Will Keep Your Clothes Spot-Free

You’re having the best day and you’re wearing the greatest outfit. Dancing, singing and eating the day away you do not have a care in the world….until a dreaded realization comes to mind: you’ve stained your clothes. Now instead of enjoying the rest of your day, you are stuck worrying about if others see the stain like you do and even more about if the stain will come out period. 

We have all been there; standing around our laundry room sinks, clawing away at a stain that just won’t budge. You’ve tried every stain remover under the sun and your shirt is an interesting shade of blue, but you have still not fully eliminate the spot. Well, these products are all well in good, you should consider these 5 unconventional stain removers to keep your clothes spot-free!

1. Baking Soda

Baking soda is not your typical stain remover but the household product really does wonders for all types of messes you may find drenched your favorite clothes. Through its power to draw out moisture, baking soda works wonders on wet stains, helping remove much of what is on the surface. It also does wonders at working deep into fabrics to remove pesky odors as well. Baking soda is good for almost any type of stain including oil, juice, blood and sweat stains. So be sure to keep a box of this product in your laundry room!

2. Dish Soap

We all know the panic that comes when oil gets on clothes because the reality sets in about the impossible task that comes with removing such a stain. Many paints and shirts have been tossed due to these stains and commercial stain removers simply not doing the trick. However, the product you need to save the day is sitting at your kitchen sink. Dish soap is very effective in removing oil stains, as it works to break up the stain and lift out the oil from the fabric. It’s basically a pre-treatment option before a wash. You’re going to want to be sure to have a bottle handy in your house, just for these annoying stains alone.

3. Toothpaste

Toothpaste is the kind of item that you have hanging around that you will find does a look more than clean your teeth. Not only is the paste a savior for scratched disks, but it also works magic on stained clothes. This may seem a little odd because typically we think of “toothpaste stains” as one of the most irritating morning occurrences that can happen to us. But with certain cotton fabrics, toothpaste has been known to remove food stains right from the surface of fabrics, due to its sodium bicarbonate qualities

4. White Vinegar

White vinegar may be a little smelly to work with, but the product does wonders cleaning. Due to its acidic content, vinegar is great at lifting stains from fabrics and working to dissolve the mess before a wash. The thorough wash is a necessity as the product can be quite smelly when you let your clothes soak. White vinegar is especially known for removing those yellow sweat stains on lights; an unwanted mess that none of us want to deal with. You may even need to wash the item twice. But trust me…the sight of the stain completely gone will mean that it was totally worth it!

5. Lemon Juice

Lemon juice great for you internally in terms of it’s cleansing properties, but did you ever think about the benefits it could have to your clothes? The addition of lemon juice to any stain will help break up stuck-on messes and lift particles from the fabric due to its acidic nature. Just squirt a little onto a stain and let it for an hour before throwing in the wash, and you should see positive results. Lemon works especially well on juice and oil stains. The product also helps brighten your whites! So don’t just use lemon juice to treat you…use it to treat your clothes too!
