When winter comes around everyone tends to get stuck in a kind of fashion rut. Jeans, jumper, coat, scarf. Not only is it difficult to see when the endless layers will end and you don’t need to worry about a jacket, but how do you find time and energy to make yourself look good when all of your worries are how to stay warm? Here are 8 things you can do to instantly refresh your outfit.
Now I’m not saying to only wear red. What I am doing is saying that a statement belt or bag can lift up a dark outfit and make it pop. Drawing attention to yourself in all the right ways. This is especially great with bags, as you can wear them with multiple outfits, and there are always bonus points if you can save money.
Sequins and glitter are great, we all know that. But all-matte always can make you blend in and not stand out. Add a metal-studded belt that will catch the light, a sequin squirt or metal-accented shoes that glimmer in the sun and strike up attention will get all the heads turning, including your own!
An hermes’ scarf, a statement necklace, a big pair of earrings. Anything will work if it draws the eye to a certain feature. This is especially important if you have never really accessorised before, as it is brand new and will revolutionise whatever outfit you’re wearing.
Always in a ponytail? Braid it. Always in a bun? Wear it down. Always down? Do an updo. This doesn’t mean that you can never wear your hair in that certain way again, but that just changing it up once in a while might make you feel like you’ve made all the world of difference.
If you don’t think that midi skirt in your wardrobe suits you, why not try it? At the end of the day, what’s the worst that can happen? And if you try something new for a day you may discover that you actually love it. Try not to be scared of change, it could do wonders to your look and your confidence.
Bold, block colours are great and are statements in themselves, but if you’re always in them, they lose that effect. Paisley, checked or stripe can draw the eye to your outfit, especially if it’s an all over pattern like a dress. Plus it means that it’s easier to wear smaller accessories because you don’t need extra on extra!
If you love natural makeup, then why not try a red lip or eyeshadow? It can be weird to look so different when you first do it, but just like I said before, what’s the worst that can happen? Go little-by-little if that makes it any easier, and if you need inspiration, try youtube tutorials, Instagram or Pinterest.
Why not try a heel or a boot? These things don’t have to be uncomfortable, you just have to find your style which is comfy and roll with it: mine is a chunky-heel Chelsea boot. There are so many different styles now with metal and clear plastic that there really is no limit. (Also, this can be you bold colour, sparkle, accessory or pattern, so it is very multi-use).
