The Best Ways To Relax On Those Stressful Days

It’s so important to have ways to relax that work for you when you’re feeling stressed. Nobody wants to feel stressed out. If we stress to much we can end up feeling down as a result. We can all agree that a stressful day is a hard day, but it doesn’t have to stay that way. After a tough day, you want to get in some R&R, a chance to forget your troubles and unwind. This is the time to focus on you. I’ve found these to be some of the best ways to relax that won’t cost you a penny and will have you feeling refreshed in the process.

Meditation

Meditating might be one of those overly advised activities recommended to you when you’re feeling stressed. Well yes, I’m here to tell you again it really is the ideal activity to help you relax. Meditation allows you to focus on yourself, to be in your own thoughts but not actually actively thinking. It lets you disregard what is happening around you so that you can feel centred and controlled. The most common method recommended is to just sit and focus on your breathing. By doing this you can slowly relax each part of your body. It is effective both physically and mentally.

Spend time with nature

Nature is our closest companion as human beings and is known to aid us in boosting our well-being. Whether you decide to tend to a potted house plant or take a walk in the park outside, nature can have a much welcomed calming effect on our state of mind. Nature has the power to uplift you when you’re feeling down. Whist nature is not everyone’s cup of tea it could do you wonders, so embrace it.

Have a bath

Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee for the British Spa Foundation, Dr. John Harcup says that being horizontal in the water has a positive effect on our psychological well being.

The act of bathing is favoured in many cultures, from the Moroccans to the Japanese and the Romans. Water is known to have an amazing effect on the mind and body because of its healing properties. Taking a bath is one of the most therapeutic ways to relax and a chance for you to slow down from the hectic day that has just passed.  Have a bath for approximately 10 minutes, use some spa-inspired bath lotion and indulge in your personal sauna. The comforting thing about having a bath is that it sets you up for a good night’s sleep as well. Alternatively, if you don’t have a bath, go for a swim in your local pool.

Reading allows you to focus on one thing. It lets your imagination run wild and reduces your stress levels as it gives you something singular to focus on. Reading a good book or a magazine means you can escape from your stresses and the demands of your day. Pick a subject that interests you so that you can generally follow the article or story without drifting.

Sleeping or napping

Getting your beauty sleep is one of the most important ways to relax. If we don’t get enough sleep, we run the risk of compromising our health. Sacrificing our time for sleep is not worth the risk. More importantly, however, sleep is a time for rest and recovery. Getting a good night’s rest will help you feel revitalised. Even a good nap will restore your energy levels. A stressful day may leave you feeling tired and run down but you don’t have to end your day like that!
