Stay In Shape This Summer With These Simple Tips And Tricks

How can you not love summer? You get sunshine, swimming, outdoor workouts, BBQs, margaritas, and a much-needed break from your usual daily hustle. But it’s hard not to fall off track with your fitness goals when you’re in such a relaxed state. To help you stay in shape this summer, use these simple tips and tricks!

1. Order that extra guac!

Fill up on avocados for tons of healthy fats that will help you feel fuller for longer. If you don’t like the taste of avocado, try and sneak avocado into your smoothies. It’ll make your smoothies extra creamy and filling, and you can mask the flavour with other fruits and vegetables!

2. Find a gym buddy

Make your gym sesh more fun by tagging along with a friend. You may feel more motivated to workout if it means socialising at the same time. Your friend can also be the one to push you harder if you’re not giving your workout your all. Hold each other accountable, have fun and stay in shape this summer!

3. Step it up

Increase your daily step count from the recommended 10,000 steps to 15,000. If you make this a daily goal to achieve this summer, you will definitely stay in shape by improving your metabolism, cardiovascular health, BMI and shrinking your waistline!

4. Stay hydrated!

I know you’ve probably heard this a million times, but that’s because it’s so important to make sure you stay hydrated! Especially during the warmer months. You tend to bloat when you’re dehydrated, so to avoid this, make sure you drink enough water every single day. Staying hydrated also has tons of other health benefits for your body. Drink up!

5. Do it for the gram!

Go ahead, snap some shots of your delicious acai smoothie bowl and other healthy meals and upload them to your socials – Instagram, Snapchat, Facey, etc. Folks who do this regularly believe their healthy food tastes better. Use this psychological trick to make better food choices and stay in shape!

6. Jump rope

This will take you back to those primary school days, skipping in the schoolyard. This old-school activity is actually an excellent calorie-blasting workout! You can burn approximately 10 calories a minute with this nifty piece of equipment and it’ll work your arms, shoulders, legs and booty. Get jumping and stay in shape this summer!

7. Vacay the smart way!

So you’re on vacation? Maybe having a break away from work or university. Wherever you decide to vacation this summer, make sure you get out and be active! Go swimming, go for a bike ride and enjoy the sights, go for a walk or jog on the beach, try stand up paddleboarding. Any activity that gets you up and moving is going to help you stay in shape this summer!

8. Get enough of those zzz’s

This is probably one of the easiest tips and tricks to stay in shape over summer! Make sure you get enough sleep, as an adequate amount of sleep has been linked to weight control. If you’re sleep deprived, this can create an imbalance of hunger hormones and increase your appetite. Yikes! To ensure your brains getting enough rest and you’re getting a good nights sleep, try and go to bed at the same time every night to create a routine for your body, steer clear of screens at least an hour before bedtime and expose yourself to natural light the moment you wake.
