10 Low Carb Breakfast Recipes We Love Unconditionally
If you’re tempted to skip the most important meal of the day, you should try some low carb breakfast recipes to liven up your morning. These dishes are easy, healthy, and most importantly, delicious. Skip the empty carbs this morning and start your day the right way.
1. Breakfast Frittata
This meal is great for prepping the night before, and heating up the morning of. It can also be hacked to suit your own tastes. If you don’t like mushrooms, take them out and substitute for cherry tomatoes or fresh spinach. You can find a recipe at the BBC.
Omelette can be eaten at any time of the day, or as an accompaniment to any other dish. It’s a great low carb breakfast meal. Just like frittata, you can add anything you have on hand to the dish, whether that’s last night’s salmon, or the greens that expire tomorrow. Try RecipeTin Eat’s recipe.
3. Banana Waffles
Mashed bananas can be transformed into ice-cream, pancake batter, or even waffles. While the jury’s out on whether bananas are an herb, berry, or some other kind of fruit, they make the perfect low carb breakfast for a sweet-tooth. Try Making Thyme For Health’s banana waffle recipe with sliced bananas, of course.
4. Hollandaise Sauce
You can make hollandaise sauce from scratch using A Beautiful Mess’s recipe. It goes well with so many meals, but for a classy low carb breakfast, serve with poached eggs or asparagus. This breakfast is perfect for Sunday brunch.
5. Lettuce Wrap
If you’re a fan of a breakfast burrito, then try substituting the tortilla for a large ice-berg lettuce leaf. That’s right; lettuce isn’t just for filling anymore. 7. Chia Pudding
Who says desert should be saved for last? Chia puddings can be made the night before if you follow Eating Bird Food’s recipe, so in the morning you can just add some of your favourite fruit or a dash of honey and cinnamon for extra deliciousness. You’ll probably have to make extra, or else your family or roommates will hoover up your own.
8. Breakfast Chilli
You don’t need to drink coffee with this low carb breakfast, as it’s guaranteed to wake you up all on its own. Eggland’s Best’s recipe is spicy and tasty, filled with veggies so you can knock over your ‘five-a-day’ early on. You can make extra to keep as lunch.
9. Chilli Baked Eggs
If you want to incorporate even more spice into your morning routine, baked eggs are a great way to do it. Preparing this dish with a side of spinach is a great way to reach your iron intake for the day.
10. Cream Cheese Pancakes
Lastly, this recipe is another effective way to take the carbs out of your diet. If you don’t want to sub bananas into your pancake recipe, then Barefeet In The Kitchen uses cream cheese instead. These pancakes are sweet, dense, and delicious. Cook them up for Saturday morning breakfast with your pals, or just for you. Top with fruit, or chocolate sauce (I mean, it is low carb already, so adding in extra sugar isn’t that bad, right?)
