We all know a good night’s sleep is important, but that is often more easily said than done. These tips may not work miracles but they sure will improve your sleep with time and make you have a more restful night’s sleep.
We have all heard this time and time again, but there is evidence to support this, I promise! Putting your phone down for the night, and closing your laptop, about an hour before you plan on going to sleep for the night can help your mind relax and prepare for bed. Stop the brain stimulation before bed and chill out! Grab a magazine or a book and unwind the old fashion way. So next time you find yourself having trouble getting sleepy, turn off the social media, grab a tea and crack open an old book. You’ll be out like a light before you know it!
If you want a bit of a jump start to feeling tired, try some essential oils. Lavender oil, in particular, can help your body feel more relaxed and at ease. Rub a little on your wrists, and your neck to help the scent develop. The aroma of lavender will ensure that you are able to drift off into a blissful night’s sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and stress-free. There are many other essential oils on the market that can help to reduce stress and help ease your mind, if you’re not a big fan of lavender. Mist diffusers are a great way to spread the scent throughout your room if you don’t want to wear it. The light water vapour is calming to look at and is also more subtle than a room fragrance or candle. Vapour diffusers are also dorm room friendly!
If you are not a master at meditation their are a number of apps that are able to guide you through it. Meditation is a must for me before bed! It helps to clear your mind especially if you have a lot on your plate. Get ready for bed, turn off the lights and get comfortable. Turn on your app and clear your mind, the guided meditation will take care of the rest. You’ll never be able to sleep without it again! Guided meditation can help if you struggle with mental health, anyone with anxiety or depression will know that trying to get a restful night’s sleep can be next to impossible, meditation during the day as well as at night time can help tremendously to keep those whirling thoughts at bay.
Weighted blankets have slowly been gaining the attention they deserve. Some may think this is a bit of a gimmick, however, I can attest that they work! The weight from the blanket covering your body offers an extremely comforting quality. Weighted blankets can be a bit on the pricey side however they are worth every penny. The weight from the blanket also ensures that you won’t move excessively move and disturb yourself during your sleep.
I know a lot of the time, the thing that keeps me awake at night is thinking about all of the things that I have to do the following day. Keep a pen and notepad by your bed and write down a list of things that you know you have to do the next day. This will ease your mind and allow your mind to be at ease. Clearing your mind is the key to getting a restful night’s sleep. So jot down your obligations, get them out of your mind and onto a piece of paper. Your list will be waiting for you in the morning! Stop thinking about it and sleep.
