A Day In The Life Of A University Of Northampton Student

For the students in UoN, the days are pretty much similar. No one is particularly awake for the dreadful 9am, two hour long lectures. We are all very confused as to how it was possible for us to survive a 9am to pm day when now two-hour lecture seems like a bit of a stretch. Keep reading to find out what a day in the life of a University of Northampton Student is like!

6:00am-7:00am: Alarm clock goes off multiple times.

When you’ve set those, you were probably feeling quite ambitious and thought 4 hours of sleep is enough.

7:00am: The real get up time!!!

This is the one of the hardest goodbyes to your bed, you have to roll yourself out of bed and start your adult responsibilities. As every normal university, you start getting ready with your eyes half closed and throw on anything that is clean and comfortable.

8:00am: (Now this can vary depending on whether you live on or off campus) Personally, I have to leave my house two hours before seminar or lecture begins.

However, most of the time leaving everyone leaves their flat usually half an hour before to go to the library to re-read your notes (or write your notes most of the time).

10:00am-12noon: Seminar and/or lecture time!

Even if you have gone out the night before and ended up coming home at 5am, it is worth making an effort to show up. Although the work will be online, the lecturer will only discuss the topic once!

12:00pm-1pm: The most beautiful time of the day which is the hour break between some of the lectures and seminars.

Usually the time to get a coffee and recharge the batteries so that in the next lecture you do not fall asleep (because let’s be honest with ourselves, it does happen!). Although, buying a bag of air for 90p with only 5 mildly tasty crisps is not the highlight of the day and certainly does not help those of us on the budget- it does help.

1:00pm-3:00pm: Probably the longest 2 hours of our life (especially if it’s a Friday!).

3:00pm-4:00pm: Home to your flatmates, or waiting for the bus.

If you are one of the lucky ones who do live on campus you will probably go home to your flatmates. Unfortunately, this is not the reality for the University of Northampton Student who lives off campus. It can take 20 minutes for the bus to arrive and then another 40 for it to arrive to the main centre!

4:00pm-6:00pm: The well-deserved nap after a long day!

Ideally, the lecturers would expect us to review the notes but we do need the afternoon nap. Now as students, we really do regret not taking more naps when we were kids as it would have probably have given us the energy we are seeking right now.

6:00pm+: Any time after six can go two ways.

Firstly, studying until early hours of the morning and still not be done with your assignments. Sometimes no matter how early we start them, it just does not seem ever be done at a reasonable time of the day! Another way in which your evening can go, is to get ready, go out and get crazy at NB’s, Fever or Balloon. There is really no in between, it’s either an intense study session or you go mad like it’s your birthday! Hope you enjoyed finding out what a day in the life of a University of Northampton Student is like!
