Coffee has become something that a lot of us need in our lives. Some might say that they’re obsessed. If that seems like you, do I have a list of travel spots for you. Next time you decide to take a trip, why not hit up some of the best coffee destinations in the United States. Why not find coffee destinations where you will be immersed in all things coffee; learning where and how it’s brewed, where the beans come from, tasting it, and learning how it is prepared in other places around the world. I’ve created a list of coffee destinations you should visit if you and your bestie are coffee obsessed!
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that this is one of the top coffee destinations on the list because it is home to the first-ever Starbucks. Make your way to Pike Place and you’ll find that Starbucks as well as a bunch of other top coffee shops that are worth the visit. There are tried and true jolts for every palate, widely-acclaimed roasters, season latte artists, growing chains, and the cutest mom and pop shops. According to some insiders, Seattle is the best place to grab a flat white. Who wouldn’t want to take a trip to the rainy city and enjoy copious amounts of joe?
You won’t have to travel far if you start in Seattle, because the next spot on this list of coffee destinations is just one state over from Washington and in Oregon. The coffee options in Portland are quirky just like the people and the overall vibe of the city. Make a stop at Deadstock Coffee and try their unique LaBronald Palmer (a mixture of sweet tea, coffee, and lemonade all in one drink). Stop at Never Coffee Lab’s Phuket brew is coffee infused with chilis, toasted coconut, and lime leaves, and then head to Tov’s where you can enjoy your coffee served out of a double-decker bus. Out of all the coffee destinations, Portland has some of the wackiest yet most delicious coffee out there.
San Fran has the third-highest average spent on coffee per household making it another great entry on this list of coffee destinations. The residents of San Fran love to spend a pretty penny on their morning coffee and thankfully there are a ton of shops for them to do so. San Francisco is tied with New York and Seattle for the city with the most coffee shops per capita. Blue Danube features an array of coffee drinks and it is the perfect place to kick back and read. There is a giant bookshelf inside that is filled with journals full of drawings, poems, and blurbs you can read from the cafe’s visitors over the years.
Turns out that the windy city is also highly caffeinated, making it a perfect addition to this list of coffee destinations. The innovative coffee shops in Chicago resemble those that you would find in Portland. Some coffee shops feature spicy coffees, java that tastes like cookie butter, and even some boozy lattes. Chicago also has the most doughnut shops that are linked with their incredible coffee shops. The Wormhole is Chicago’s best coffee shop and it’s super cool because it’s sci-fi themed!
New York also has the most coffee shops linked to doughnut shops in the United States making it one of the coffee destinations that you shouldn’t pass up. Recently the city opened an artisanal doughnut and coffee bar that everyone is raving about. It’s called the Coffee Project and it is located in the East Village. Stop in there for their deconstructed lattes and their popular Nariño brewed latte, The Steam-Punk Machine. You can find a coffee shop on almost every corner of NYC, but finding the good, hidden ones is the best part about visiting the city.
Downtown Los Angles is the home to many coffee shops that celebrities swear by. The city is ranked among the best cities for coffee lovers making it one of the best coffee destinations. The shops downtown have a friendly ambiance and there is a slight chance that you might stand in line behind someone famous. Plus, each shop is so Instagram-worthy it’s ridiculous. Alfred Coffee is a fan favorite amongst residents and celebrities alike because of its infamous iced vanilla latte. And The Cappuccino Maker in West Hollywood has been ranked as LA’s most Instagram-worthy coffee shop. You’ll feel like an influencer just by stepping into one of LA’s coffee shops.
Boston really takes care of its coffee lovers by regularly rotating their roasters and brews so that customers never miss out on any new flavors. If that doesn’t make for one of the most perfect coffee destinations, then I don’t know what will. The Render Café and Pavement Coffee House are two of the city’s most famous coffee shops for those great Boston flavors. Pavement Coffee’s first shop was located in Fenway Park and now graces the city with 8 different locations. People can’t get enough of the shop’s coffee for its flavor and strength.
You can find a variety of specialty coffee shops in D.C. making it one of the best coffee destinations. These coffee shops are loved by locals and tourists alike because of the java beans that they freshly ground and use to create specialty concoctions in most of the locations. Coffee Nature is a favorite you can find in DC. It is a small, quaint neighborhood coffee shop and that is what makes it so great. The coffee art that graces the drinks served here is unmatched and gives the shop a nice and friendly kind of vibe. It’s the perfect stop to round out a great coffee vacation!
