As a college student I hope to be in bed by 11, but find myself wondering if High School Musical 3 is on Netflix at 3 in the morning (it’s not). I’m starving and looking for something delicious. That’s when I decide to order food from one of my favorite places around UNL. I’m obsessed with sandwiches and pretty much all food.

I’m sure that you have discovered that Jimmy Johns is always delivering until 2 and if you have not taken advantage of that, do you even college? All of the delivery drivers know me by name and let’s just be honest, I love it. Its like seeing my best friends all the time. But there is more to late night dining than JJ’s at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Let’s dive in!

1. Hi-Way Diner

Yes it’s like super out of the way from everyone’s life at UNL, but its open 24 hours and filled with delicious food, and you’re obviously looking for a place to eat at 2 am. So make it an experience and make the drive out there, carpool with your hungry friends if you have to. It has free Wi-Fi and the best thing that the diner is known for is breakfast food, which is what you’ve been craving anyway. Make a night of it. Get the girls together at the diner and study for that psych exam coming up.

2. Ramos Pizza and BBQ

As if the name hasn’t got you sold on it, the food will. They deliver until 3 am and have a pepperoni cream cheese pizza that will literally leave you craving for more of their food. Along with the pizza, you can fill up on all of the BBQ. They have a ribs and pizza combo and if you’re not 100% sold on that nugget of wisdom, then you’ll be sold on the fact they have a pizza on the menu called a garbage can! It has every topping you can think of and will definitely make you full.

3. Lazzari’s

The freshman 15 is real when all the pizza places are open till like 2 and 3 in the morning. Lazzari’s has delicious New York style crust and is open till 2 in the morning. It is so delicious, you will never be able to get enough!

4. Shoemaker’s

The official truck stop you need to visit during your college years in Lincoln. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and it falls into the category of sometimes you’re feeling tacos, so you need delicious, greasy truck stop like tacos. But once again, you’re probably craving breakfast, so you need to just trust me and go eat the hash browns at 2 am when you’re sick of studying.

5. Toppers Pizza

It had to be included because, believe it or not, some people do not know about the downtown restaurant that has been supplying late nighters with pizza for years. This place has deals all the time for cheap delicious pizza and it is truly an experience having the delivery guy from toppers come to your dorm at 1:30. He is going to be your knight in shining armor during your all-nighter. The service is truly wonderful and I have personally never had a bad experience with their delivery or eating in. The pizza is delicious and you will need it in your life after you try it!

6. Ali Baba Gyros

Ever get a craving for steak fries at 1:30? Look no further than Ali Baba. Do you find yourself craving quality Greek food? Ali Baba. Would you see yourself trying Greek food in the wonderful downtown Lincoln? Ali Baba.

I’m going to let you in on a little secret, I get sick very easily so I am always very hesitant when someone mentions a food I am unfamiliar with. I was very unsure when someone mentioned the gyro special sandwich. I gave it a try and will go back again in a heartbeat! Even if you aren’t into the sandwiches and other options, try it out for the amazing seasoned steak fries. I really recommend going on a weekend with your besties and enjoying the downtown area afterwords!

7. Boss’s Pizza and Chicken

Lincoln must have a thing with pizza and chicken, it’s the most common thing available late at night around UNL. This place is open till 3 am and the minute you look on the menu you will be drooling over all the specialty pizzas. Boss’s has amazing appetizers and the delivery is so worth your time!

8. El Chaparro

Mexican food at 1 am is awesome and it is a defining moment in your college life. Someone is either trying to sober you up and shove lots of good food down your throat, or someone is having the exact same cravings as you are and a texting conversation lead you to getting Mexican food at two in the morning. Either way, it’s a good time!

9. Village Inn

They’re open 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays and it’s cozy and quiet. If you are like me and crave some sweets in the middle of the night and like to read, go to Village Inn at least once. I sincerely enjoy coming there during my insomnia struggles of trying to pass Physiology and enjoy a nice piece of pie and a good book. Whenever I go, I always dress warm and order black coffee. I enjoy the fact that during college I can always have a piece of pie from Village Inn. It brings me back home for a brief moment.

10. McDonald’s, Amigos, IHOP, Raising Cane’s, Pickleman’s, De Leon’s….

There really are so many chain places to get food from late at night near UNL, you can find a place for whatever you’re craving. All the above places are open till at least 3 in the morning, though most people have already experienced these late night eateries. They’re all still delicious and have their place in my foodie heart.
