Tommy Hilfiger is the epitome of classic American style. What comes to mind is brightly-colored collars under crew-neck knit sweaters, perfectly ironed button downs that are rolled up to the elbow, and tennis and sailing-appropriate outfits in red, white, and navy. The tried and true classic style will probably never go out of fashion, as well-fitted blazers, pin-striped shirts, and trench coats have stuck around for decades. These flattering and chic styles will take you from the classroom, to brunch, to your internship/office, and can be kept in your closet as staples for many years to come.
The preppy style doesn’t have to make you look like you’re twelve years old, or a grandma. The classic look can be extremely fresh and stylish when done correctly, meaning less is more (the color-coordinated layered polo look with multiple popped collars and a sweater tied around the shoulders is a little much). The secret is to keep the look modern, and to also put a personal twist on your outfit so you don’t look like you’re actually a competitive golfer or attend prep school. When wearing a boxy sweater, make sure that your bottoms are form-fitting. Pair it with leg-skimming khakis or colored , stretch dark denim jeans, fitted shorts, or a body conscious tank top dress (that will create a smooth silhouette but look like a skirt). Bold yet classic makeup accents simple colors such as neutrals, white, and navy beautifully. Think matte red lipstick or a swipe of liquid eyeliner. However, more busy styles such as brights, prints, and floral should are complimented by natural makeup.
If you are rocking a knee length skirt or dress, give yourself some height with wedges or pumps. Flats look great with either over the knee skirts/dresses or maxi’s (heels and floor length dresses can look awkward). Cardigans are not meant to be buttoned all the way up, so wear them with the buttons at the top unbuttoned, or open over a maxi dress or tank top. Tommy Hilfiger offers simple yet chic styles that give you ample opportunity to bring out your personal style, whether it be by adding vintage earrings, brightly colored wedges, a metallic clutch, or a fun hairstyle.
