Football season at Ohio University is overflowing with the spirit of Athens. Game-goers love to have a little pre-kick off celebration at Tailgate Park. Don’t get me wrong, the free food and beverage at Punchcard Park (the lawn behind Grover Center) is greatly appreciated, but the real fun happens across the street. Keep reading for 10 tips that will make for the perfect tailgate at Ohio University!

1. Bring all of your friends!

Nothing is better than a tailgate at Ohio University with your friends. For you freshmen out there, the tailgates can also be a place to make new friends as well. The more the merrier!

2. Show school spirit.

Don’t forget what you are tailgating for (Hint: the football team). Make sure you are cheering and in a good mood for this one. Throwing in a few team cheers throughout the day never hurt anyone.

3. Enjoy the free food!

OU is known for having free food at every tailgate. They make sure every student knows and even have fun games and activities going on before the games at BSP (Bobcat Student Park).

4. Remember to look ahead at the forecast!

Make sure you know the weather. This crucial information will let you know what to wear and bring along with you to the tailgate. This will ensure that you have the best time possible and are prepared.

5. Embrace the weather!

Once you know what the weather is going to be like, don’t complain! Work through the little bit of rain, or the frigid temperature. No one likes a complainer.

6. Dress to impress.

Thankfully the time has come to wear all your Bobcat gear at once. Take advantage of this rare opportunity and scream school spirit with your attire. If you’re not in to going all-out, a nice jersey would do.

Although a lot of your experiences tailgating at BSP will be free of charge, once you get into the game you may want something extra to snack on, or a souvenir. Bringing money won’t hurt.

10. Enter the game on time!

Although most people wait awhile to enter the game, we suggest that you enter in time for kick-off. The game is what you came for, so the game is what you should see. Cheering in the stands with your classmates is an unforgettable experience that you don’t want to miss out on!
