This Is The Thank You Single Dads Deserve For Mother’s Day

Dear Dad,

Hey, it’s me. I’ve been trying to find the strength to write this letter to you for several days now. I’ve been so focused on trying to find the perfect words to describe just how much I love and appreciate you. And then it hit me- how is it that I have to search for the strength to merely write a thank you, meanwhile you’ve been trying to find the strength to raise four kids on your own? It doesn’t seem fair, nothing about this situation seems fair.

In the past several weeks, months, even years, you’ve been trying to play both roles in a two-person play. You’ve bent over backwards to make sure all four of your kids feel loved, appreciated, comfortable, and then loved some more, all while playing both mom and dad.

You’ve had more uncomfortable conversations about makeup, hair products, social drama, and ‘girl problems’ than any other dad I know. I would like to think it makes you more ‘well-rounded’ as a person, but in reality you’re just a SuperDad, and that is absolutely something to be proud of.

In the last few years, our family has been shaken to its core, and we’ve somehow managed to rebuild. In case you didn’t already know, you were the glue that held us together. You worked (and are still working) your butt off to make sure our family makes it. You are the reason we are where we are.

People often compliment my strength when I share my story, but in reality they need to be thanking you. It is through you that I have found my strength and my comfort. You raised me to be the person I am today, and for that I am forever in debt to you.

Thank you for being patient. Thank you for solving (or trying to solve) my problems when I ask. Thank you for always being just a phone call away. Thank you for sharing your strength and for making sacrifices I may never understand. But most of all, thank you for being SuperDad.
