The Whiteout Trend

The recent influx of sleek monochrome looks is heating up both the runway and the street, and it’s clear that white on white is one of the hottest trends of Spring/Summer 2013. Although white is often seen as a lack of color, it technically contains all the wavelengths of the visible spectrum, so it really does match everything! It tends to coordinate well, and has endless possibilities in mixing and matching textures, fabrics, and details which can make all-white looks anything but boring! The color reminds many people of peace and serenity, perhaps this is why designers have recently been exploring the relaxing potential of white during the time when people are planning vacations and day trips to the beach. Embrace this clean and chic trend and flaunt your personal style all Summer long in white bikinis, day dresses, body-con styles, and even footwear! All of these featured pieces are from UK label Boohoo, and you can get an exclusive discount at Studentrate.

There are some preconceived notions that white is not flattering, as black is slimming so the logic goes that white is the opposite. This is not necessarily true. Any garment that fits your shape and is a flattering cut for your body type will look good on your frame. Yes, even in white. White looks especially stunning on tan to deep skin tones, as the contrast really makes the piece pop. However, fair skin can also look great in white! Feel free to treat yourself to a spray tan or grab some self-tanning spray from your local CVS or Sephora if you feel like you need more of a sun-kissed glow. (But please avoid the tanning beds, Ladies.)

Whether your style is more simple and classic, or if you’re bold and love trying new trends, have fun playing with accessory choices when you’re wearing an all-white look. Gold, rose-gold, silver, and turquoise styles all flawlessly chime in with the hue so you can create different looks over a white silhouette. You can break out the jewel-tone and colorful heels and sandals, or keep the look minimalistic with subtle stud earrings and nude footwear. You can add a pop of color like a bright blazer or a statement bag, or you can keep your outfit natural with a fedora and leather sandals. Whatever your personal style, this is your blank canvas to run with!
