The Ultimate Ranking Of TCNJ Freshman Dorms

Move-in day is about a week away and I know how you freshmen feel. Other than classes, your dorm room is one of the most important aspects of moving to college. You don’t know how your room or building is set up until you get there. This is a list of the different freshmen dorms on campus with some positives and negatives. I did my research through TCNJ Housing and with some of my friends. This list is in no specific order and this is my take on the ultimate ranking of TCNJ freshman dorms from both experience and research.

1. ABE

Allen, Brewster, and Ely are three buildings all connected. It looks like one long condo.

Plus: If you are one of those people who isn’t very social and likes quiet, this dorm would be great for you; it only has about 10-20 people on a floor per building. It’s also the closest walk to Eick and the Library. There’s a piano and pool table too!

Negative: For pick up/drop off, it’s not in the easiest location. It’s almost in the middle of campus and there’s no parking garage, only a street.

2. Towers

Travers and Wolfe are basically the center of the freshmen class. The majority of the freshmen will live here.

Plus: It’s right above TDubs and the aerobics center; there’s different freshmen events here; and it’s the place where all the pick ups and drop offs are for off campus parties. Each room has a sink so you don’t have to walk to the bathroom to wash your face and brush your teeth. It’s super social and so easy to go to different floors and visit friends.

Negative: There’s no air conditioning. I lived on T10 and I could feel it getting hotter and hotter as I went up the elevators. Speaking of elevators, they can get kinda nasty and sometimes won’t work, especially in Wolfe.

3. Centennial Hall

This is the home of the honor’s program.

Plus: There are a lot of places for studying and play. There are arcade games and a flat screen tv in the ground floor lounge. It’s also located between the library and Lake Sylvia, which has beautiful views.

Negative: Depending on how you look at it, each floor is single-sex with one bathroom. From one of my best friend’s experiences, single-sex floors aren’t as awesome as they sounds.

4. Norsworthy Hall

This dorm has the coolest layout with communal bathrooms, like the other ones.

Plus: It is was updated in 2014/15 with new floors/walls, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and lounges. There is also a game room like Centennial and a communal kitchen like Centennial and ABE.

Negative: Freshmen are mixed in with sophomores, which is a different experience alone.

5. Commuting

I know it’s not a dorm building, but I thought it would be a good idea to add it in here.

Plus: Save money on room and board, home cooked meals, a car, an opportunity for an off campus job, need I say more?

Negative: You don’t see your campus friends as much if you have to commute home. Unless you find it easy to join clubs, make friends, and don’t mind being on campus super late, it might be difficult.

Your dorm building will not determine how your freshman experience will be. Make the most of your freshman year no matter where you live. Before moved in, I did not want to live in the towers, but I ended up loving it. As a sophomore, the best advice I can give is don’t be afraid to try new things and just be yourself. Step out of your comfort zone. Remember it’s okay to make mistakes. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from CA’s and any other upperclassmen you know. Good luck and see you on campus!
