The Ultimate Ranking Of Freshman Dorms At Georgia Tech

Freshman dorms have offered us some of the most interesting experiences of our lives. Between shower shoes, PLs, and roommates, dorms provide a very different experience from that of living at home, and some of the most trying (shout out to all the random roommates that are working out well). But at the end of the day, no matter the dorm, our dorms give us some of our best memories, or at least some interesting stories. Here is the ultimate ranking of freshman dorms at Georgia Tech!

1. Glenn & Towers

The beacon. The ultimate. The best of the best. This is absolutely where you want to be. From being able to get into these halls from the GT(Get it? Glenn-Towers Connector aka GT Connector) Connector to having new tile in the bathrooms that actually have laundry rooms inside the building, Towers & Glenn are truly the Ritz Carlton(s) of Georgia Tech student housing.

2. Hopkins

This a pretty standard dorm. You have a really average experience as far as bedrooms and bathrooms go. However, this dorm is in the world’s most beautiful location. Not only are you in the FMPH quad but you also are at the base of Freshman Hill AND across from the GT Connector. Also you are a block closer than most freshman to Tech Square and only have to cross the street to get to Bobby Dodd Stadium.

3. Field, Matheson, Perry, & Hanson

The beta quad but the second best houses on campus behind Glenn & Towers. The rooms are small but are extremely close to campus nightlife. Perry also has it’s own workout room, so take that as you will.

4. Howell

The Grand Challenges dorms. Within the walls of Howell lives a cult that you can be invited into but never truly a part of.

5. Brown

Although this dorm has not been renovated since 1993, this building lies between two of the most exciting aspects of the Georgia Tech campus: North Ave Dining Hall, the Tech dining hall that is the closest to getting a Michelin rating, and Bobby Dodd Stadium, the heart of campus during the fall football season. Not bad.

6. Cloudman

“It’s fine. I’m fine,” say residents of Cloudman about their just fine dorm experience. If you do end up in this unfortunate place, try to get on the short hall because it’s a little quieter. The close location to Freshman Hill does make this a little attractive though.

7. Harrison

If you ever wanted to know what living in a college dorm was like in the 1980’s, this is the place for you. Or even if you dig tile floors and sad, brown color schemes, also a great spot to be.

8. Smith

Here is really where you have to decide where your priorities are. Is it worth showering in a honeycomb style shower to be the closest resident to Nave dining hall???? Make your choices.

9. Hefner-Armstrong

Although still far far far on west, the Hefty-Arm residence halls have the benefits of special programs offerings. The residents of this hall live a better life than most on west in their newly-ish renovated buildings that come with their own parking lot and study space in the basement. PLUS, AND PROBABLY the most important part is the fact that there are constant free snacks available in this building, so shout out there.

10. All Non-Honors West: (Montag & Freeman (SMaRT),  Folk, Fitten, Caldwell)

For those who don’t want to live in the midst of civilization, west campus is a great place! The dorms are bigger, and normally nicer than those on east but also are just so darn far. If you have knack for transportation and want to solve the mystery that is the Georgia Tech transportation system, then you will be in for a treat. You have a killer choice of food from either Woody’s…or Woody’s. However, the bright side is that there is West Side market on west where you can use dining dollars for Ben and Jerry’s and that is just something that is absolutely incredible. Plus, west is getting a ~P A N E R A~ next year, so west freshmen 2017 will live in a little bit less of a wild west.
