Summertime in Austin is beautiful. The Texas sun is beating down on you, and there are so many outdoor activities so you can really enjoy it. Austin has so many things to do, that the possibilities are endless, and all are incredibly fun! If you are coming to Austin in the summertime, and are looking for things to do while you are here, I have made the perfect list for you! Here are the best sites to see in Austin this summer.
While Hamilton Pool Reserve is a little further away from central Austin, it is worth the drive. It is a beautiful hike that leads to an incredible natural swimming pool. This pool is in a canyon, surrounded by a grotto, and beneath a 50-foot waterfall. It is a breathtaking sight to see, and the water is great to swim in! It is amazing being in a swimming pool that was created due to erosion that collapsed the dome of an underground river.
Barton Springs Pool is a must-go in Austin. Only a short walk from Zilker Park, this pool is filled entirely by water from nearby natural springs, mainly Main Barton Spring, the fourth largest spring in all of Texas. The water is 68 degrees year round, which means it keeps you nice and cool during the hot summers, but is comfortable to swim in the winter time! Definitely stop by this three-acre wide pool.
Zilker Park is a very large area, but the flat, grass area is spectacular. It’s a great place to picnic with your friends, sit and enjoy the sun, play some soccer, or beach volleyball, or just sit and enjoy the beautiful view of downtown Austin. Its a wonderful area of flat grassland that can be enjoyed in any way that you might like!
Every summer, Zilker Park hosts Blues on the Green. This is an entirely free music festival held one Wednesday every month of summer. People bring blankets to sit and listen or go up front to be at the front of the show. It is a very relaxed atmosphere, allowing people to really sit and enjoy the music.
Austin is the best place to participate in stand up paddle boarding, or SUP as some call it. As you paddle around the river, you see the sights of the city and the park, and it is a wonderful way to catch some rays and get in a little bit of a workout. Some people even do yoga on their paddle boards! It’s a wonderful way to really enjoy the water on those hot Austin summer days.
Every summer, Zilker Theater Productions holds a show that is entirely free! However, they do ask for donations to help allow them to continue these productions. The cast and crew work tirelessly to put on these shows, and their hard work pays off! The shows are breathtaking, every person working on it being incredibly talented. This is a stop you don’t want to miss.
The 360 Bridge, which stands over Lake Austin, is a beautiful construction. The water glistens underneath and Austin Country Club dazzles in the background. Along 360, there are many mountains, some of which, there are paths to the top. Just before the bridge, there is a path that leads to the 360 overlook, and from there you get the best sights of the Bridge. At all times of day, the bridge looks magnificent, but if you catch it at sunset you’ve really won the jackpot. Stop your car on the side of the street and make the short hike to the top. It’s worth it.
