The Best Microbreweries In Montreal You Should Definitely Know About

Quebec’s microbreweries are often known for producing top quality craft beers that are renowned all throughout North America. With big cities being the most accessible and versatile hubs for sampling, here is a list of some of the best microbreweries in Montreal you should definitely know about.

1. Dieu Du Ciel

Established in 1998 in Montreal, this craft brewery is considered by many to be one of the best microbreweries in Quebec. Distinguished by the superior quality and variety of its beverages, they’ve even managed to make the list of the world’s top beers by Time magazine in 2015.

With a wide selection of hops ranging from Wheat Beer with Citrus and Black Pepper to a Session Sour Blonde, a cozy locale with friendly and knowledgable staff and light grub to munch on, you will definitely be impressed by this cozy, neighbourhood spot.

2. BreWskey Pub & Taproom

Founded about four years ago, this Old Montreal bar focuses primarily on microbrews and Scotch whisky. The recent opening of the Taproom allowed them to expand the pub in order to accommodate their growing clientele and to start brewing their beers on site.

Including the home-brewed beer, the bar serves exclusively Canadian alcohols, most of which are from Quebec. Local and regional products are offered up with pride at this vibrant brewpub that also serves creative bar eats.

3. Yïsst

A trendy brewpub located in the Petite-Patrie neighbourhood, Yïsst is a bar that features a lineup of house beers on draft (brewed in partnership with La Succursale at Ma Brasserie) and a varied selection of hops from different microbreweries in Quebec.

They also serve up Canadian wines, North American Alcohols and support local, small businesses. You can also grab a variety of small snacks or meals ranging from charcuterie plates to vegan nachos.

4. Pit Caribou

Many of the provinces most well know microbreweries come from smaller, less metropolitan regions and can hold their own just about anywhere. This is the case with Pit Caribou. Located in the Plateau, this bright pub serves up beer with a Gaspésien flair.

Founded in 2007 and manufactured in the Gaspésie region of Quebec, expect lots of robust, hoppy flavors and a great selection of award wining beers like the Gose IPA Du Barachois, La Blonde De L’Anse and La Gaspésienne No.13. Also make sure to try their award winning American Brown Ale, if you can get your hands on it.

5. Brasserie Harricana

Out of all the microbreweries in Montreal (and Canada), Harricana was the first brewpub to have installed the futuristic-style “Flux Capacitor” draft system. This is a useful tool that controls each draft line’s temperature and carbonation for better beer on tap.

They also offer up many different house brewed craft beer options along with some sodas and Kombucha (made in-house as well). Enjoy some gourmet comfort eats while you are there from Beer Braised Ham Bone to their “Hart” House Salad.

6. Boswell Brasserie Artisanale

Part of the abundant microbreweries present in the Plateau area, Boswell Brasserie Artisanale is a great location that offers up quality, house brewed, craft beer with over 21 beverages to pick out. From the classic Pils to the Gose Sanguine with blood orange to the West Coast IPA, you are sure to find a beer that suits your taste and style.

You Can also enjoy their intimate selection of wines and cocktails and grab a bite from their menu of elevated pub grub.
