This year’s summer fashion trends push the envelope — and that’s exactly how I like ’em. It’s my favorite season to dress for and if you’re anything like me, you’ve had some of these bookmarked in your head since NYFW. Here are 7 of this year’s summer fashion trends you need to try.
I fought this one pretty strongly at first, but seeing the new and different ways animal prints are getting styled has me changing my mind. Leopard and snakeskin have been the most popular patterns; they’re the perfect prints to add some edge to any outfit. Every clothing item is getting a little taste of this trend: tops, jeans and even shoes. My personal favorite is the animal print skirt. Pair your favorite skirt silhouette with a t shirt and flats for a casual look or a button up and heels for a date night!

Some say accessories make the outfit; rattan bags certainly prove that to be true. It goes by many names, i.e. woven bag, basket bag, straw bag. Whatever you call it, you need to add it to your closet. It comes in a variety of shapes and sizes that will be the perfect accent piece to any summer outfit. Wear it with a flowing floral dress for a first date or a white button up tucked into denim shorts for a Sunday barbecue. The rattan bag offers the perfect feminine touch to any outfit.

As far as summer fashion trends go, this one was the most exciting. Fringe, however and wherever you wear it, adds a fun element to any outfit. Fringe skirts are a lot of fun to go dancing in. Fringe on your blouse or jacket can make a great statement piece. The summer trend is perfect for those of us who are into festival looks months after Coachella. A little fringe detailing on a light jacket adds the perfect boho look into everyday outfits. Wear it with a fun dress and booties for a fun daytime look!

We all love an over-the shoulder look and this trend is making it so much easier. This style was dormant for a few years, but it’s making a triumphant return. It’s the perfect top (or dress!) to wear for special occasions like weddings or formals. Pull that hair up in a bun or pony to really give the neckline a chance to shine. (Psst! Add a little highlighter to the exposed shoulder to give it an extra glow!)

We have the Kardashians to thank for this trend. Forget your denim shorts and pick up a pair of biker ones to rock as the weather gets warmer. You can dress up biker shorts with a button up, blazer and your favorite pair of pumps or keep it casual by pairing it with an oversized graphic tee and Old Skool Vans. The best part is you can look on-trend while still being comfortable.

Would any summer fashion trends list be complete without neon? It is a summer trend every year, but fashion designers have made it a must-have in our closets this season. The sun is a little brighter and so should our clothes. If you’re feeling a little hesitant about this trend, start small! Accessorize with neon earrings or shoes. Neon graphic tees are also a great and easy way to try out neon! If you’re feeling bold, a neon body con dress is perfect for a night out!

Like the one-shoulder top, puffed sleeves are making a comeback this year. The puffed sleeves give off a vibe of regality that’ll make you feel more confident and unstoppable. It’s also the perfect day-to-night top! Wear with slim trousers and pumps for a perfect office look then tuck your top into light washed denim jeans and slip into heels for that dinner date. You’ll want to pull your hair back for this one, too — show off that puff!
