Reasons Why You Should Travel During Your 20s

Travelling is something everyone should do in their lifetime but even more so during your 20s. There are plenty of reasons why you should travel during your 20s – check out our list of reasons below which should encourage you to travel as much as possible!

1. You probably won’t get the opportunity again

You should definitely travel in your 20s while you’re still young, wild and free. Your 20s are all about discovering yourself and it’s the prime time of your life where you should do as much as you can when you can.

Your 20s should focus on yourself and it’s the time of your life where you have the whole world at you feet. You have no responsibilities and the only person you need to look after is yourself. It’s the time of your life before you get married, have a lifelong career and have children (if that’s what you want).

Spending money that you’ve saved up on travelling the world is truly worth it and an experience that money really can’t buy. You won’t have to get bogged down with the worry of bills and paying rent as all of that can come later so live in the moment and take the plunge!

2. The world’s a big place and there’s so much to explore

The world has so much to see and do and what better way to explore the world than to travel?

Make your dreams come true by visiting new countries you’ve never been to before and discover new cultures and things you’ve never seen before. It’ll be the experience of a lifetime where you’ll be able to make new and unforgettable memories.

There are so many wonders of the world that you just have to see in person as seeing them on TV or through social media does not do them justice.

3. It’ll give you time to figure out what you want

As mentioned in the first point of this article (you won’t get the opportunity again), your 20s are all about discovering yourself.

Your 20s can be a confusing time and it can be a time in your life where you feel lost with no sense of direction. You’ve probably just finished university and you’re not sure what career you want to go into or what job you want to do.

Travelling the world can help you discover yourself and give you time to understand what it is you really want. It’ll give you time to figure out what it is you want to do or don’t want to do and it’ll be an opportunity for personal development. It’ll relieve you of the pressures of getting straight into a job that you’ll probably end up hating. Instead, you’ll be able to work out what you want to do and what will make you happy.

4. It will boost your confidence

Whether you go travelling by yourself or with some friends, it can still be a scary prospect travelling to places you’ve never been before and for a long time.

Travelling the world will give you more independence and help you to become more confident when it comes to speaking to new people and making new friends along your travels. Getting yourself outside of your comfort zone will help you overcome challenges that you’ll come across later in life. If you’re able to survive travelling the world, you can tackle anything.

5. It will give you survival skills

Building on from the previous point about travelling boosting your confidence, it will also give you survival skills.

Travelling the world will mean you’ll need to pick up survival skills and also quick. You’ll be learning how to look after yourself and really budget. You’ll also pick up on languages quickly in order to converse with people and it’ll be a chance for you to understand how to be more independent especially if you have never moved out before or been abroad on your own.

It’ll get you out of your comfort zone and sometimes, the only way you’ll be able to survive is when you get put into the situation.

6. It’s an amazing learning opportunity

Travelling is an amazing learning opportunity and it will teach you so many things. It will teach you more about yourself and you’ll learn more about other cultures and come across things you probably won’t have done back home.

You’ll learn new languages and learn about other people’s way of life. You’ll learn about customs and what is considered unusual back home but what might be completely normal in a specific country. You’ll be relying on yourself to get yourself out of sticky situations and being able to handle things yourself rather than relying on others – it’ll help you to become more resilient and tougher.

7. It will give you a new perspective on life and the world

The world is a scary but beautiful place. Travelling and visiting other countries you haven’t been to before can give you a whole new perspective on life and the world.

You might visit a country where they are content with not having electronics or luxuries that you might have and it’ll make you really appreciate the life you have; some countries might not even have the bare basics such as food and water.

Visiting other countries will help you see what the other side of the world is really like rather than what you’re probably shown on TV or through social media.

8. You’ll be able to escape ‘reality’ for a while

Many 20-somethings choose to travel straight after university as they don’t want to go straight into work. It’s a break between being in education for most of their lives and getting straight into the working life. By travelling the world, you’ll be able to escape reality for a while and it’s a great way to get away from the stresses of work and life, if only temporarily.

It’ll give you a break from the hectic working life and will mean you can do what you want to your heart’s content with no worries before you do head back to reality. You’ll be embarking on an amazing adventure before you go focus on your career and other things you want to achieve.
