Fall is officially here! The temperature is just right and you can finally dust off all of your favorite sweaters that have been tucked away in the closet. Luckily, in Maryland, there are plenty of fun things to during fall. Keep reading for 10 reasons to love fall at UMD!

1. Get outside and connect with nature!

We are so lucky here in Maryland to have the most beautiful autumn! Leaves turn vibrant red, orange, and yellow, and the air becomes crisp and cool. Take this opportunity to take a walk outside and observe the beauty around you. Nature is a great place to spend some time with yourself and your thoughts, or to take a walk with someone special.

2. The wait for football season is finally over!

After a long summer of no school, football season is the perfect way to dive back into Terp spirit. Tailgating during fall at UMD is one of the most fun times of the year! Get out and support your team, and show off your school spirit with creative outfits as the weather gets colder.

3. Get creative with your pumpkin spice latte.

Sure, every state can go crazy over pumpkin spice when Starbucks finally brings it back for fall. But with our chilly fall weather, there’s nothing better than curling up in bed with a great book or your favorite Netflix show and sipping a piping hot PSL! And if you want to get creative with your pumpkin spice, people online are going crazy with new recipes.

4. Eating absolutely everything at Thanksgiving!

…And spending time with family of course! Thanksgiving is a great time to see your loved ones while eating delicious food and taking a much needed break from school-work. Don’t worry about the calories; holidays don’t count!

5. Try new foods at the Taste of DC Festival!

Another great thing about our school is its proximity to DC and all it has to offer. For example, Taste of DC is an annual culinary festival on October 8-9, featuring local restaurants, cafes, donut shops, and more. Take a walk down Pennsylvania Ave and eat amazing food while listening to live entertainment!

6. The election!

Living so close to DC also gives us a firsthand look at the buzz and excitement of the 2016 presidential election. Take advantage of the opportunity to go to your favorite candidate’s rallies or speeches, and visit their future home at The White House.

Okay, maybe not everybody’s favorite holiday, but Halloween is still pretty great! There is so much to do around campus, and not to mention in DC. Get online for some inspiration for a creative, fun costume. This is also the best time of the year to go crazy with makeup and put those tutorials to use!

8. Planning a cute and comfy fall outfit everyday.

Sweater weather! We all remember the super catchy song from 2013. There’s nothing cozier than pulling out your warmest sweater and knee high boots to go to class in chilly Maryland weather! Fall outfits are the perfect combination of cute, comfortable, and classy.

9. Black Friday… or should I say Cyber Monday?

Let’s be real, the whole craze about Black Friday is a little bit outdated. Who wants to wake up at 12 AM to go to a hectic crowded mall full of sleep-deprived, discount-hungry people? Wait for Cyber Monday to go online and get awesome deals on your favorite websites, with no lines or parking lot traffic. Just be sure to get online early before everything is sold out!
