Podcasts That Will Improve Your Mornings

Podcasts are an essential part to my morning routine. They always start the day off right, and somehow, make me feel I’m doing something productive by listening to them. If you’re looking for podcast recommendations, allow me to share some of my favorites with you. Here are eight lifestyle podcasts that will brighten your mornings, guaranteed:

1. @lexie

I’ve been a long-time followers of the “@lexie” podcast. Lexie Lombard, a 26-year-old living in California, has such a conversational, comforting way of speaking. She treats the podcast as though it’s a FaceTime between her and the listener, allowing her the freedom to talk about whatever it is that’s on her mind. There are no central topics or themes to this podcast; again, it’s very lifestyle based. A lot of her content revolves around her life in California (and in earlier episodes, her life in New York). I just love Lexie as a host. She’s hilarious, introspective, and deeply honest. Everyone needs a daily dose of the “@lexie” podcast to wake up to. If you like Lexie’s podcast, check out her Youtube channel!

2. Busy, Yet Pretty

Calling all the pink pilates princesses! “Busy, Yet Pretty” is the perfect podcast for you. Host Jadyn Hailey discusses how to achieve a healthy work-life balance (and how to look cute while doing so). As Jadyn touches on, prettiness is more of a mindset than a physical attribute. Episodes like “Take Yourself On A Date” and “Manifesting Your Dream Life Using Law Of Attraction” demonstrate how important self-care is in maintaining a “busy, yet pretty” life. Reject hustle culture and focus on making yourself happy. Jadyn seems like the sweetest girl, and I love the overall message of her podcast.

3. Growing With The Flow

I’ve also been listening to “Growing With The Flow” for a while. Nayna Florence, a student (and recent graduate, I believe) at the University of Edinburgh, covers various topics on her podcast, ranging from life at school to coping with burnout. As an English major, I love it when Nayna talks about her book recommendations. She has excellent literary taste, and such a sage, big-sister-like way of speaking. While she hasn’t posted an episode in a while, there are a ton of older ones to binge. You can also see more of Nayna on her Youtube channel!

4. Gals On The Go

“Gals On The Go” is the holy grail for all matters fashion, productivity, friends and family, and navigating adulthood. Brooke Miccio and Danielle Carolan are both thoroughly entertaining hosts. They have a infectiously fun dynamic and always bounce off each others’ energies. Seeing as they both got their starts on Youtube, I can understand how they’ve become such amazing hosts. Most episodes run over an hour long, so they’re the perfect way to ease you into the day. If “@lexie” feels like a FaceTime call, “Gals On The Go” feels like you’re chatting over drinks with your friends. For those of you that live in (or close to) NYC, I totally advise you to listen to this podcast. Since both Brooke and Danielle live in New York, they offer a lot of tips and recommendations for things to do.

5. Supply Chain Issue

This one goes out to all the fellow English majors out there. “Supply Chain Issue” is another casual, conversational podcast featuring book-obsessed hosts, Sage Priest and Izzy Enriquez. Though they describe themselves as “all-around pretentious people,” Sage and Izzy are anything but. Again, I love the dynamic between these two, and they have great taste in both music and books. I like the schtick of their podcast, too, where they both buy new drinks at a coffee shop before the start of each episode.

6. Your Angry Neighborhood Feminist

Shifting away from lifestyle podcasts, “Your Angry Neighborhood Feminist” is more focused on politics and world news. Keegan and Madigan are well-informed hosts that often add humor to otherwise grim topics (when it’s appropriate to). I’ve been listening to them since I was a freshman in college, as they still continue to produce weekly content. Keegan and Madigan offer their opinions on various subjects in a very unbiased, non-glorified way, which is difficult to find in a politically-based podcast. Their view on feminism is intersectional and incredibly supportive, as it should be.

7. Blank Page to Book

Have you ever wanted to write a book, but have no idea how to get started? Katie Wolf, host of “Blank Page to Book,” will give you all the advice you need. As someone who aspires to be an author, I’ve found Wolf’s tips on writing and publishing to be extremely helpful. Each episode is quick, so the information isn’t overwhelming. Katie will guide you throughout the entire process of writing a book, from generating an idea for the plot to finding a literary agent. I believe Katie also has an episode on overcoming writer’s block, which we all fall victim to.

8. 80/20

Much like “Busy, Yet Pretty,” “80/20” prioritizes mental, physical, and emotional wellness in a work-centric world. The title itself, “80/20,” indicates the balance we need between productivity and self-care. As host Lily Rakow alludes to, 20% of our inputs and efforts account for 80% of its results. Obviously, Lily explains it better than I can, but that’s the overall gist of the 80/20 rule. Another interpretation of 80/20 that Lily mentions is reserving at least 20% of your time doing things you enjoy. 20% of your day should be dedicated to treating yourself, whether that entails a sweet treat to eat, a drink to indulge in, or taking a long, peaceful bubble bath. Lily shares all the myriad ways we can grow into the best versions of ourselves.
