5 Plants That Both Look Great And Purify The Air

Plants are a great way to add a personal touch to any room: living rooms, bedrooms, even bathrooms. However, indoor plants can seem even trickier to take care of than outdoor plants because of the lack of natural light and the tendency to either underwater or overwater. However, in reality, a few indoor plants are actually easy to care for. And because these plants can purify the air, having them indoors creates both a beautiful vibe and clean air, free from toxic chemicals that lurk in your homes like formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene (I’m not even kidding).

1. English Ivy (Hedera Helix)

English Ivy is a great indoor plant because it thrives in an environment from bright filtered to low light. Excess light can lead to drying out, so filtered light is best for the English Ivy. These plants are also easy to water; keep them moist and water them freely. What makes this plant a wonderful choice for indoors, besides their capability to flourish in almost any condition, is the tendency for its long vines to grow, making English Ivy the perfect plant to place in a hanging pot.

2. Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)

The Peace Lily plant is perfect for indoors because it is both beautiful and easy to care for. This plant actually prefers an environment with little to no direct sunlight. But don’t mistake this plant for one that thrives on neglect. Place this plant so that it gets indirect but bright sunlight. Let the soil dry out between waterings, and when wondering if it’s time to water again, simply check the soil and the Peace Lily will let you know. This plant is also perfect for a hanging pot or in the kitchen with access to lots of natural light.

3. Snake Plant (Sansevieria)

The snake plant is pretty amazing in the respect that you can ignore it, completely forget about it, and neglect it, and it will continue to flourish. The snake plant is extremely drought tolerant and can survive in any type of light, including low light. However, the best conditions for your snake plant to flourish is in indirect light and watering just enough to moisten the soil. Ancient Chinese tradition even suggests that the snake plant brings good luck while simultaneously warding off evil spirits. This plant is a jack of all trades and makes for beautiful and unique home decor. And admit it, we could all use a little luck and a little protection from our house plants.

4. Florist Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum)

Unlike the other plants on this list, the chrysanthemum comes in all different colors, like yellow and pink, and it perfectly serves to lighten up any room. However, also unlike the other plants on this list, the chrysanthemum is a little temperamental when it comes to successfully growing this plant, but because it purifies the air, it’s worth the trouble. The chrysanthemum needs full sun, and the soil needs to be kept moist. What makes this plant so great at purifying the air is its quick transpiration rate, which basically means it releases water vapor from its roots to its leaves, and into the atmosphere (your room).

5. Spider Plant (Chlorophytum Comosum)

The spider plant is another insanely easy plant to keep healthy and beautiful. Similar to the snake plant, the spider plant can survive despite neglect. Provide them with well-drained soil and bright indirect light, and these plants will flourish. Water this plant sparingly, allowing for the soil to dry out before watering again. Another great feature of this plant is that it sprouts its own spiderettes, which mean you can forever propagate and regrow new spider plants.

These indoor plants make the perfect addition to any room as they look beautiful and also purify the air that you breathe. Have a favorite plant that is your go-to indoor companion? Let us know in the comments below!
