With a new year comes a new color as Pantone makes its claim to each years color fame. Last year was greenery, and this year ultra violet has been reigned the color of 2018. Now, you may not think this is a big deal – but you can expect everything design related ranging from fashion, art, to dorm decor to be based around this color. Why? Because Pantone is considered to be the leading source of color information around the world, and when they announce what a whole year’s color is, it’s a big f*cking deal. So, if you want to get a head start on Pantone color of the year 2018 – here’s some ultra violet ideas.
Celebrities such as Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix were inspirations when it came to Pantone’s choice in color of the year. According to Pantone, these celebrities brought this color to the front of western pop culture, inspiring individuality for others.
Ultra violet can be expected to be seen on college campuses all over, as it’s deeper meaning stems from the cosmos and the intrigue of “what lies ahead.” Since students will eventually be our future workforce, it’s fitting that they have ultra violet in their dorm rooms.
Pantone’s vision for ultra violet is to symbolize individuality, experimentation, and non conformity – a.k.a thinking outside of the box. In their statement, Pantone expresses how they want people to use this color to feel inspired, and to think about the future.
These are just a few examples of where you can expect to see the futuristic Pantone color of the year 2018 to pop up. However, as we reflect on 2017 we can say goodbye to its color, “greenery” as it was made to symbolize “flourishing foliage” and “the lushness of the great outdoors.” It’s time to think in the future, which is what ultra violet has been created to do.
