10 Outfits Inspired By Your Favorite Halloween Movies

Dressing as some of your favorite characters from Halloween movies isn’t always the first thing we think of when the phrase “fashion inspiration” comes up, but it should be! Some of the most iconic costumes come from Halloween movies so why shouldn’t we draw inspiration from them?

This Halloween season, pull inspiration from some of the best Halloween movie characters and dress the part! Dressing up outside of your comfort zone is good for you, and these characters offer the perfect crutch for you to lean on!

1. Wednesday Addams//The Addams Family

At some point in their lives, everyone has wanted to be Wednesday Addams… Well, at least I have. Wednesday’s look is iconic, and it’s impossible to look at a black Peter Pan collar dress and think of anyone else but Wednesday. Fortunately for us Wednesday lovers, the Peter Pan collar is making a comeback in a big way and can be found on all sorts of clothing items in the Fall.

To emulate Wednesday’s iconic look and finally be a part of the Addams family, look for a black Peter Pan collar dress. You can even search for one with a fun pattern like Wednesday’s in The Addams Family Values.

If you want to be inspired by Wednesday and not mistaken for her, opt for a different color of Peter Pan collar dress such as blue or red! By switching up the color of the dress, you are still rocking the Wednesday vibe without going totally Addams. You can even wear your hair in 2 braids, but that’s not required, just highly encouraged!

2. Beetlejuice//Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice… not our first thought when it comes to fashion. The black and white styled suit is a statement, but if you are comfortable wearing it, it can look amazing!

Beetlejuice is quite the character, and his outfit totally reflects that and demands attention—so this one isn’t for the faint of heart! But if you want to copy this iconic look without so much… stripe… opt for just one striped piece instead of two!

Pair the Beetlejuice pants with a cute black crop-top, and you will look incredible but also not draw so much attention to yourself — perfect for the shier ones out there! And if you’re feeling up for it, pair the look with green or purple makeup to go even further into the Beetlejuice world!

3. Coraline Jones//Coraline

It’s impossible to deny that Coraline’s fashion sense is out of this world and very trendy. The good news is, copying Coraline’s style is super easy and attainable! Coraline really only goes between a few outfits, but the one with the star sweater and blue booties is something you could totally wear!

This fall, emulate Coraline’s signature style with a blue sweater (preferably with stars), black jeans, blue western-style booties, and a dragonfly hairclip if you really want to go all out! This is a great outfit choice because it’s not totally in-your-face like Beetlejuice and is totally appropriate for school or the office!

4. Mavis//Hotel Transylvania

Mavis’ look from Hotel Transylvania is probably one of the more effortless outfits to copy because you most likely already have the main piece of the outfit in your closet! For this look, all you need is a black dress, black tights, and red Converse or sneakers! Of course, you can always go full-on Mavis by wearing black and red tights like her’s, although you don’t have to! This outfit can be as gothic or casual as you want and you can still get the same vibe with just the simple pieces!

5. Velma//Scooby-Doo

Everyone was always so busy looking at Daphne that they forgot to notice Velma. But when you think about it, Velma’s outfit screams fall and can be totally wearable if you just tweak the colors slightly.

To copy Velma’s look and make it super trendy, all you need is a pleated skirt (preferably red) that looks like a school uniform skirt or a tennis skirt. Pair this with a turtle neck sweater, and you’re all set! Just because you’re pulling inspiration from Velma, doesn’t mean you need to copy every detail of the outfit—that’s what Halloween is for! You can draw inspiration from any outfit without feeling like you need every piece, but if you want to, wear the knee-socks, too!

6. Freddy Krueger//A Nightmare on Elm Street

No, Freddy Krueger isn’t exactly the style icon we grew up looking at, but his outfit is also one of the more practical of all Halloween villains! Freddy’s outfit is simple: a striped sweater, jeans, and a fedora. The tough part is finding an olive and red striped sweater because designers tend to avoid this color combo due to Freddy.

That being said, you don’t need to do olive and red! You can pick whatever colors you’d like, but color combinations like red and olive, grey, or black will be a great way to bring in some Freddy inspiration! The good news is, Halloween stores such as Spirit Halloween carries a Freddy sweater that isn’t all ripped up and no one would even know you bought it at a Halloween store!

7. Carolyn Stoddard//Dark Shadows

People often forget about the 2012 movie Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp, which is a shame because the costumes in that film were incredible. One of the most memorable characters fashion-wise was Carolyn Stoddard, played by Chloe Grace Moretz.

Because this film is set in the 70s, the costumes would make great outfits for this summer. 70s style is on the upswing, so take advantage of this by copying Carolyn’s style! One of the best outfits Carolyn wears is an all-purple outfit that would be super fun and easy to recreate!

For this outfit, consider visiting your local thrift store to pick up some vintage 70s pieces and pair it with purple pieces. Just because Carolyn wears all purple doesn’t mean you have to, but even if her outfit wasn’t all purple, it would still be adorable! The fringe jacket, patterned fishnet tights, the pink suede button-up skirt… it’s all very trendy for today’s standards, and you could totally make this yourself!

8. Ghostbusters//Ghostbusters

Finally, after all these years, Ghostbuster fashion is in style! When you think about it, the Ghostbusters are really just wearing a utility-style jumpsuit, which is super easy to come by these days!

Utility fashion has been prominent in 2019 so this is a really easy outfit to copy! Jumpsuits are also great because, just like the Ghostbusters, you’re a busy person and sometimes you just want to throw on one thing and call it a day. With a jumpsuit, you can save time and energy and look put together with only one piece!

Pair the jumpsuit with a pair of black booties, and you’re ready to kick some ghost butt!

9. Boo//Monsters Inc.

If there’s someone out there who doesn’t think Boo is the cutest ever, I don’t want to know that person. Boo is definitely one of Pixar’s most recognizable characters; lucky for us, her outfit is super easy to copy and is super comfortable!

Even though Boo is a toddler and her t-shirt is just too big, wearing a t-shirt dress will give you the same look. If you’ve ever worn a t-shirt dress, you know how comfy they are, and that is essential for a Boo inspired outfit! Pair your pink t-shirt dress with a pair of white sneakers to emulate Boo’s socks, and you’re set!

If you want to go the extra mile, you can even wear an oversized pink t-shirt and throw on a pair of purple cycling shorts! Put your hair in some pigtails, and you’ll be Boo, all grown up!

10. Georgie//IT

While we didn’t get to know Georgie all that well in IT, we can still appreciate the yellow raincoat and green Wellies he sported in his big-screen debut. I’m not suggesting you wear Georgie’s outfit exactly (although, you can), but instead, pull inspiration from his look!

Pulling inspiration from Georgie is an excellent option for those of you who want to have more fun with your style and not be too obvious about who you’ve pulled inspiration from. While the yellow raincoat is a total statement, not everyone lives in rainy weather or wants to be the ray-of-sunshine on an otherwise bleak day.

Instead, wear a bright yellow sweater paired with some jeans and maybe even a pair of green boots! You can also wear some red accessories to represent IT’s balloon. After all, we all float down here, you might as well look good doing it!
