Most students won’t have ovens, stoves, etc. in their dorms. Or if you do, they’re community ones, and at least at my school you had to ask the RA to give you the key and it was such a hassle that I usually avoided it. Even when I had suite style housing all we had was a microwave and a fridge. So it’s good to know how to make food in the microwave besides ramen, nachos, or those small little macaroni and cheese cups. So here are just a few recipes to try to make in your microwave to help broaden your diet.
Requiring just ground beef and beef ravioli, it’s simple to make! Take ramen or Chef Boyardee a step further and make some ravioli casserole instead.
This may not be the healthiest approach to chicken, but if you don’t have a stove and you really want to make a recipe that has chicken in it, you can try this out! You just microwave it for about 15 minutes, until it reaches 170 degrees and the juices aren’t pink anymore.
Toast some pita bread (or english muffins!), throw some veggies on top, and cook in the microwave! Best part is, you can put on whatever toppings you would like. If you’d rather some pepperoni instead of zucchini, go for it.
Corn in the microwave? Just wrap a moist paper towel around a cob and microwave it for five minutes! Great side dish or for when you’re really craving some vegetables.
Risotto can be hard dish to make, but now it easy when you just use a microwave. And if you have a lot of leftover vegetables or anything in your fridge, you can just throw them in here to use them up, as long as you have some uncooked rice.
Want eggs for breakfast but don’t feel like going to the dining hall? Make an omelette in your microwave. It takes about 5 minutes only, and it uses eggs, cheese, and ham! Sounds good to me.
You seriously can cook almost anything in the microwave. Here’s a recipe to make shrimp using just butter, Old Bay seasoning and lemon juice. And a microwave, of course!
Chocolate Molten Lava Mug Cake
And when you’re craving some chocolate, it’s simple to make your own in the microwave! You just need some cake mix and hershey bars. Perfect dessert to finish off the rest of your microwaved meal.
Now this is just a few of the many, many recipes you can find out there. Microwaves are also good if you have a lot of leftovers, because you can easily whip up a dish in no time. So don’t let the fact that you don’t have an oven or a stove keep you from cooking or eating a balanced diet. Get started with that microwave today!
