Lizzo seemed to just pop out of nowhere but she’s been putting in the work to get to where she is now. She works hard, loves hard, and releases music that is true to her. When your standing in a crowd at her concerts you know she’s talking to you, you may be far away from the stage but Lizzo’s vulnerability is ever apparent and reaches even the most reserved people. Lizzo is changing up the stereotypes and letting everyone know that black girls deserve love too. She stands up for the underrepresented, the outcasts, the people who keep being held down by the world. Her music lifts you up, has you singing your heart out all while realizing your worth AND your voice! She speaks her truth on matters that are important and in that Lizzo changes the script of oppression to allow for self-expression instead.
She is not afraid to show her curves and be extra vulnerable and real with you. We need an artist that is all about honesty and changing up the pace for what is accepted and not accepted. She stands up for the big girls and she does it by being her full self and not apologizing one bit for it. She may have gotten famous for “Truth Hurts” but her real fame lies in her body positive campaigning and words of self-love.
I mean do I have to say it again? Love yourself! So, at every concert, the artist will get personal with the crowd, but Lizzo didn’t just get personal she spoke with the crowd. She gave us all the self-love we weren’t expecting yet gladly accepted. In a crowd where you know no one except yourself and your friends, it was obvious the connection everyone in the room had at the moment when Lizzo explained her journey and the importance of falling and getting back up again. She brought love to that stage and with her honesty she allowed her crowd to also feel loved.
Why Lizzo is everything: She believes in you even if you don’t believe in you! Listening to her music will honestly help you on your self-care journey. All you should do on a self-care day is listen to Lizzo. when you’re going through a rough break up or a hookup situation and don’t know if you’ll ever get out of your funk, listen to Lizzo. When you just feel terrible, listen to Lizzo. You feel great? Listen to Lizzo!
