How To Rule Online Dating 101

Online dating can be a daunting experience, especially if you haven’t dated in a hot minute. I’m here to give my best tips and tricks to rule online dating. Let’s get started!

1. Know What You Want

Before starting an online dating profile, it’s important to ask yourself what you are looking for in a match or partner. This could mean a long term relationship or simply a friends with benefits situation. Whatever it is, make this clear on your online profile, so people know what to expect. Having a good idea of what you want will also help you choose your partner.

2. Keep It Simple

Keep your online dating profile simple. Maybe add your favorite band, favorite hobby, or tv show. Don’t add unnecessary details that will just make people bored or want to move on. Add the best few pictures of yourself and don’t overdo it. Also, don’t add a picture from five years ago that looks nothing like you now.

3. Know When To Swipe Right Or Left

It’s important to know when you are simply swiping to swipe, or genuinely find someone attractive or intriguing. Don’t just swipe because you haven’t swiped right in a while, otherwise you will be overwhelmed with the matches you have. Narrowing down your pool of suitors will help you meet someone easier and more efficiently.

4. Reach Out First

Be bold and be the first one to say hello, introduce yourself and see if you can spark an interesting convo. It’s so attractive when you have the courage to speak first, trust me. Show people you aren’t messing around and that you’re really in this for real. Plus, you don’t want to be sitting around all day waiting for someone to hit you up.

5. Don’t Get Discouraged

Online dating can be a stressful and not so rewarding experience. Make sure to keep your head up and not let this get you down. You will probably go on a lot of dates that suck, in order to have an amazing one. That’s just the reality of life and the dating world. Try to go into every date with a positive attitude, and if it doesn’t work out, don’t beat yourself up. Your person is out there.

6. Be Open To New Experiences

If you are open to trying new things and experiences, online dating will be so much better. If you don’t typically go for nerdy guys, maybe give them a shot. You don’t know it until you try it. And if you’re still set on your “type”, then by all means, go for that. But it’s always good to step outside your comfort zone to see what you’re missing out on.

7. Know That Online Dating Isn’t Everything

Online dating is only one form of dating, and there are so many other ways to meet people. If you don’t find success with online dating, it isn’t the end of the world. Some people find success with online dating, and others absolutely hate it. It all depends on the person. Go to a new bar or restaurant, you never know who you might meet!

8. Online Dating: Know Your Worth

Sometimes, we can get so caught up in the world of online dating, we forget what we deserve. Don’t settle for that guy that simply wants to hit it and quit it, because you deserve better than that. If you seek someone who is going to treat you like a princess, chances are you will find that. Put out good energy and you will get it in return.

That’s a wrap! I hope you learned something about how to rule the online dating world. It can be quite the rollercoaster, but I believe in you. Let us know in the comments which of these you are going to hammer in before getting an online dating profile. Happy dating!
