Knowing how to layer summer clothes can be difficult if you aren't sure where to start. Here are our tips so you can keep wearing summer clothes in winter!

The winter is a great season for so many reasons. The one thing that is always a bummer, though, is the fact that you have summer clothes that you don’t get to wear. We believe no clothes should be left behind, so we came up with ideas, to layer your summer clothes. Now, you can wear them this winter as well. Stick with us girls, we’ll show you how to layer summer clothes!

Skirt with Tights or Skinny Pant

Your skirts, which are adorable in the Summer, can be just as adorable in the Winter. Your summer skirts can be layered over a skinny pant or tights. This may seem a little 90s, but we promise that you can get away with it. The trick is to find the style in which you feel most comfortable. None of us wants you to wear something you’re uncomfortable in, that just leads to everyone being uncomfortable). So be comfortable in your summer skirts, all year long!

Turn Your Summer Dresses into Skirts

I absolutely love this idea! It is so ingenious. You can now take your summer dresses that you were ready to take out to the pasture, and wear them! All you simply must do is put on a chunky sweater with the skirt. This makes your new outfit, a warmer version of your original outfit. You can take all of your summer dresses and simply layer them with different flowy tops. With this tip, you can make whole new outfits. Your wardrobe just grew exponentially! Love when that happens!

Belt a Cozy Sweater

We all have the sweaters we never wear, yet we can’t get rid of. Also, we never wear some of our sweaters, because they’re just too big; although, we absolutely adore them. So here’s a way to make the most of winter, and your discarded wardrobe pieces. Simply find a beautiful belt, and belt your cozy sweaters. This is great because it gives your body shape and proportions again, which you lose when your sweaters hang loose. So belting your sweaters can be a great solution to your big sweater problems.

Layers with Wool

An obvious way to get better use of your closet pieces is to layer them. Wool pieces are very good at achieving the goal of layering, and still being warm enough. You could layer a thin piece of clothing under a wool sweater. My favorite style idea is to layer a wool sweater under a lighter jacket; this way, you stay warm enough, but you don’t have to pull out your winter coat. Also, I love the idea of a wool blazer, it adds sophistication and simplicity to your layers. Also, it is great for traveling in the winter time (Philadelphia to L.A. is a large temperature change). When you layer, using wool to add warmth in the Winter is a great way to make use of your thinner wardrobe pieces.

Cardigans Can Rock

I feel like some ladies think cardigans are for when you turn 90 years old. However, with numerous designers and cheaper brands alike making cardigans, you have a large amount of options to choose from. Cardigans come in every color and shape (I’m petite, so I stick with a shorter length cardigan); you are sure to find the best one for you. Your summer wardrobe consists of a lot of band tees from all the concerts you attend, and a lot of thinner cotton tops. Cardigans are the perfect piece to layer on top of these tees, so you can make use of every summer piece you have.

Crewnecks and Turtlenecks

It is really great to invest in some turtleneck tees, because they’re lightweight, and also some crewneck sweaters, because of their versatility. These pieces are great for layering. These pieces are even better when you layer them together. A cute and striped turtleneck tee underneath a solid colored crewneck is sure to keep you warm and stylish all winter long. You can also layer some of your thinner button down shirts underneath your crewnecks. You will get a lot of use out of your thinner pieces by utilizing a crewneck sweater. This is one of the best tips for knowing how to layer summer clothes!
