How to Clean your Skin Through your Gut

Acne can cause people to lack confidence and feel uncomfortable in your own skin. Trust me I have been there, and it destroyed my confidence. I went to various dermatologist, was placed on different medications, birth control, and creams to try and control my acne. I even started going to my dermatologist every couple of weeks to get facials. Let me tell you these facials are not the relaxing kind that you are thinking of. They are extremely painful; I would get extractions done and have acids placed on my problem areas. Not to mention they were expensive. I had been told by my dermatologist (yes, I had more than one!) that I should be put on Accutane. For me this was the absolute last resort! After reading the side effects of this medication, this was my last resort, as I did not think this medication would be a good match for me. Before I decided to give Accutane a try, I was experiencing horrible stomach pains and issues. I had learned that one of my medications was an antibiotic which I had been on for over a year. Because I was on this medication for an extensive amount of time it started eating away the lining of my stomach. After this I met with my Naturopath, and I made the decision that I was going to get off of all the medications, pills, and creams. I wanted to repair the lining of my stomach. My naturopath also shared with me that she could prescribe me with some vitamins that would be able to help clean my gut. After dealing with all of the doctors, medication, countless appoints and lack of confidence I decided that I was going to repair my gut and do everything in my power to clean my acne through my gut as well. And let me tell you it worked! So here is everything that I did to clean my skin through my gut to get rid of my sports acne, hormonal and cystic acne.

  1. Probiotic

A good probiotic will take your skin far! So important that you spend the time finding a good probiotic. Yes, you can buy and find some decent ones from pharmacies and the grocery store, but I highly recommend making an appointment with a doctor, nutritionist, or naturopath to help find the best probiotic for you! The probiotic will allow for you to fight “bad” bacteria. These bacteria could be causing some of your breakouts. So, giving your body extra support to combat this “bad” bacteria by taking a probiotic it will allow for your body to eliminate what might be causing your breakouts. Without the probiotic your body may be processing the bacteria and trying to get rid of it through the pours of your skin. If you are trying to get rid of breakouts than I recommend staring with a good probiotic to clean your gut!

  1. A hormone vitamin

Hormones could also be causing your breakouts! I know for me personally my acne would flare up around my hormones, whether that be from stress, lack of sleep or around my menstrual cycle. Therefore, I was initially prescribed birth control to try and get rid of my acene, although it didn’t help me. You can meet with your doctor to help place you on a hormonal vitamin, this may help keep your hormones balanced and will intern help keep your acne tame. If you are trying to clean your skin through your gut, I highly recommend finding a hormonal vitamin that is best for you.

  1. Drinking water

Staying hydrated is so important for your skin but also your body in general. Drinking what helps our bodies process and flush out bacteria and toxins that may cause our pours to clog and create acne. So try and drink as much water throughout the day because this will seriously make a difference on your gut and help clean your skin. You can also add lemon juice or sliced lemon to your water to help your skin as well. Lemon can help your skin because of the natural nutrients and can increase the collagen in your skin.  You can also add sliced cucumber to your water as well. Cumber can help promote healthy skin and soothe it from the inside your gut. Cucumber has natural vitamins and acid that help clean your skin such as B-5. The B-5 vitamin maybe prescribed to clear your acne as well. I highly recommend trying to increase your water intake and even add lemon or cucumber to it to get the maximum benefits from every glass of water to clean your skin and your gut.

  1. Celery juice

I found that when I started to drink celery juice within ten days, I began to see an improvement to my skin. You don’t have to buy a fancy juicer to have celery juice. You can go to your local smoothie shop or grocery store to purchase celery juice. You can also just add raw celery sticks into your diet as well. Celery contains key nutrients and vitamins that help clear your skin and clean your skin and your gut. If you, can I highly recommend adding some form of raw celery into your diet!

  1. Limited dairy

I also tried to eliminate dairy when I could. Dairy has hormones that cause your skin to have breakouts. Dairy is also harsh on the gut at times and these hormones need to leave the body. But our bodies often have a hard time digesting dairy which is why they sometimes leave through our pours causing breakouts. So, I tried to use dairy substitutes when I wanted. It is so easy in today’s age because there are vegan products, almonds, soy and oat replacements for most dairy products. If you are trying to clear your skin and acne through your gut than I highly recommend limiting your dairy intake as it could be the cause of some of your breakouts.

If you are lacking confidence due to your acne and feel as though you have tried all medications, topical creams and even facials I highly recommend trying to combat your gut.  I honestly believe that by using these five suggestions, tip and tricks you will see a difference in your skin. Good luck on your journey to clean your skin, a clear your gut and a more confident self!
