How Covid-19 Affected This Years Fashion Shows

Just like everything else, fashion shows were canceled but does that mean that they were entirely over. Like other things that required readjusting so did fashion shows but they had to be creative… thankfully they did a wonderful job making sure we all were able to stream from the comfort of our bedrooms while they offered a completely jaw-dropping performance.

1. Balmain

Oliver Rousteing, the creative director has brought this Parisian brand into the spotlight over time by creating pieces that have gotten the attention of all celebrities as well as our own attention. As all creative directors had to find a new way to showcase their achievements he decided that there would be screens of some of the most influential regular front row favorites that always attend when in person. Some of these powerful figures included Kris Jenner, Anna Wintour, and Cindy Crawford. There were 3 rows of giant TV screens that were put in the location the chairs of these big names would be sitting to give them a chance to see what was going to be expected in the upcoming releases of the brand. Taking the brand back to its near founding date Oliver Rousteing decided he wanted to create something that is close to the brand’s beginning. Mr. Rousteing dove back into his creative side and created pieces with a similar logo the brand had originated with making it a very special collection and he made sure that a pandemic did not get in the way of showcasing his hard work.

2. J.W Anderson

The famous British luxury brand that not only dressed Harry Styles in Haute Couture for his American Vogue cover did something creative, and to say the least, nostalgic to many of us. Growing up, we all played with dolls and how they were the perfect shape and size with features everyone wished they could have but to this brand, they took a twist for their men’s 2021 summer collection. Jonathan Anderson who is the founder of the luxury brand as well as the creative director decided to take everyone down memory lane with this year’s fashion show. The clothing for the newest collection was displayed on paper dolls that were created to present all the patterns and materials that would be available to all. In the short clip, you are able to get a look at the dolls and see the funny faces that were put on to keep the audience entertained and intrigued at all times. Luckily these creative directors know how to get and keep the attention of their audience no matter what is happening in the world and that is why they are to thank for all the creativity they come with for us to wear.

3. Loewe

Jonathan Anderson is not only the founder and creative director of J.W Anderson but also is the creative director of the Spanish luxury brand Loewe. At Loewe, Jonathan decided he wanted to incorporate all the senses of his audience to make them feel as if they were at the show in person. For the Season 2021 collection, he sent a massive box with posters of all the photographs of what to expect while ensuring that the eyes are used as one of the senses he tried to capture. Not only did he send photographs but as well a series of tools that involved a paintbrush, a canvas tool bag, a roll of wallpaper designed by artist Anthea Hamilton, a roll of wallpaper borders with all the looks from the collection, wallpaper glue, scissors, a ceramic disc infused with Beetroot scent and a catalog raisonné. He wanted to give his audience a mini art project that gave them an inside scoop of what he had ready for this upcoming year.

4. Moschino

Jeremy Scott, the creative director of Moschino, is always ready to do something fun and unexpected that makes people do a double-take to make sure that what they are seeing is really in their face. Unlike J.W Anderson, Jermey decided he would dress up dolls and hold a marionette doll fashion show. The dolls were covered in couture fashion pieces that would only fit them and maybe your fingers but this was never done before and was a very great way to give everyone something to talk about. At Moschino, they have been known to be that flashy luxury brand that you can notice from a mile away so taking it to this level of creativity was no shocker. During the performance, you get a chance to see the runway marionette dolls strut down the runway showcasing what will be available for you in the upcoming collection without having to have been there to see it. Not only were there dolls of models walking down the runway tied with strings to their arms and legs but as well as dolls of well-known attendees such as Anna Wintour in the front row where she always belongs.

5. Yves Saint Laurent

We have gotten a chance to see many different runways in different places but we have never seen one like this. Yves Saint Laurent knew exactly what they were doing and did more than an incredible job at showcasing their work. Anthony Vaccarello took it to an unknown desert, yes that is correct a desert. The models wore exactly what they would have as if it was an indoor runway but this time had to walk in the sand with the couture clothing and in heels. Anthony took the idea of social distancing to a next level and figured what a better way to ensure everyone keeps their distance in an area only surrounded by mountains of sand. The models walked down in heels in the sand which was created in a shape that it looked like a runway but in the desert. The patterns included floral on cashmere with a lot of solid colors as well as a touch of some velvet to let everyone know that this spring season is going to be like no other.

With all these new creative ways to watch fashion shows, you can now do so from the comfort of your own bedroom or even while you are on the treadmill preparing to look your best once things return to normal. Make sure to share with friends and family and comment what you think!
