10 Hobbies That You Should Pursue

Everyone needs a hobby; they serve as a great distraction and can help with boredom. If you are looking for a new hobby, then you’re in luck, because you have so many options – cooking, crocheting, puzzles, making jewelry, and so many more. Whatever hobby you are looking to purse, we are bound to help you find one; here are 10 hobbies that you should take up.

1. Baking

Baking is favorite hobby. Ever since I graduated college I have had a lot more time on my hands; so to fill that void, I have picked up baking. The hardest part about baking is that you are left with way too many sweets. I personally love baking cookies, because of the steps involved, but I also find it very therapeutic.

2. Coloring

Adults can color too! Coloring can be very therapeutic, so if you struggle with depression or anxiety, it serves as a healthy distraction, as it teaches you to focus on one thing. If you are a college student, then I recommend this hobby, because college can be stressful (that’s an understatement) and coloring can take your mind off of that stress.. Finding adult coloring books can be a bit of a hunt, but Amazon is a great place to look for that sort of thing.

3. Puzzles

If you are looking for a project that will last you a few days or even a week, then you might want to try puzzles. Puzzles can be very complex and luckily you can choose the level of difficulty. If you are looking for a place to buy puzzles, then I recommend Target; I recently went there and they have quite the puzzle collection.

4. Making Jewelry

Do you love jewelry and wish that you could have you own jewelry line? Well, anything is possible and you can actually make this happen, all you have to do is GET STARTED. No one said that establishing a  jewelry line would be easy, so take your time and learn to hone the craft of jewelry making. I know several people that make jewelry and or sell it for a living and I think that is great, because I love home-made jewelry.

5. Soduku

Honestly, I have never been good at soduku, but that doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t pursue it as a hobby. Soduku is known to improve the function of one’s brain and memory, so it’s a healthy hobby. As you age, so does your brain, which is why it’s important to keep it stimulated and alert. Hobbies like soduku and or word searches can enhance the quality of your brain’s function. Personally, I’m more of a word search person, but any kind of activity that forces you to use you brain is good for you.

6. Collecting

What you passionate about? Probably many things, I hope. Collecting takes passion… and money. Anyone is capable of possessing a collection of some sort, whether that be coins, card, rings, art, etc. I think coin collecting is the most common among collectors and if you collect them long enough, then you could sell them and make some money. Collecting is a form of art; it is very unique and very personal but it is a great hobby. What kind of collector would you be? I think that I would collect quartz and I’m not know sure why but I have always been fascinated by them.

7. Cooking

To all the amateur chiefs out there, you are doing it right. Cooking is great hobby, but it does require patience and failure, because it’s a process that is learnt and it takes effort to be a good cook. Have you ever heard of the saying, “If it was easy, then everyone would do it”? Well, that applies to cooking. Whether you like it not, you are going to have to cook for yourself (eventually), so trade your cup of ramen in for a chief’s hat. I’m not saying that you should start off by attempting to cook an entire Thanksgiving meal, instead start off small, like hamburger helper or something.

8. Photography

You don’t have to be a professional to be considered a photographer. Photography is an art, so there really isn’t a wrong way to take a picture… well, maybe there is, but we are talking in terms of a hobby. If you are millennial and you might be if you are reading this, then you probably have thousands of picture already on your phone, so in a way, you are already an amateur photographer. I know that I love taking pictures of my pets, family, and environment, because I am able to capture a moment that I will never get back. I think that photography is important; the world is constantly changing, so we should capture it while we can.

9.  Journaling

Did you ever have a journal or a diary as a kid? I don’t think that I did, but I wish I did, because it would be kind of cool to read about my past. Hobbies don’t have to complicated, they can be as simple as jotting down your thoughts. Journaling can be a weekly or a daily hobby; it is whatever you make it. Writing is a good way to express yourself, because sometimes it’s hard to put into words how you exactly feel and with writing you can take your time and discover your own feelings. A lot of therapists recommend this activity / hobby, because when you put pen to paper and write, you are committing to your own words.

10. Nail Art

Ladies, skip the nail salon and be your own manicurist! Lets be honest, getting your nails done can be quite expensive, especially if you are at the nail salon every other week. Nail art sounds kind of hard, but it’s actually easier than you might think; all you have to do it buy some stickers, glitter, rhinestones, fake nails, and design away. If you need some guidance, I bet there is a YouTube video out there that could help you.

1o hobbies means that you have a lot of possibilities and who knows you could have a hidden talent and don’t know it. Do you have any hobbies? If so, let us know in the comments.
