10 Gifs That Describe Being A Student At Elgin Community College

At Elgin Community College, there’s an overwhelming mix between being comfortable and being out of place. One part of us longs for a new journey that most University students embark on, while another part of us is grateful for the close proximity that still remain between friends and family. Nonetheless, we’re college students, and we like to kill time by scrolling through our Twitter feeds, and chuckling to ourselves at the memes and GIF’s that so appropriately relate to our lives. Here are 10 GIF’s that accurately describe being a student at ECC.

1. Finding a close parking spot near Building A/B is like Christmas morning.

It’s inevitable that running late means running really, really late due to the parking spaces available by the time you get to campus (a.k.a. the lot across the street from the building you need to be in). But today, you feel like taking a chance. While creeping up and down the aisles, you catch a glimpse of an empty spot right in front of the stairs that lead down to Building B and suddenly you’re internally screaming and praising the Elgin Community College gods for this blessing.

2. Gamers United have the most fun at school, no questions asked.

The students who make up Gamers United are having a blast on campus, every single day. The club calls for students who enjoy video, card, and board games, and can almost always be spotted in the far end of the cafeteria: Gamer’s Territory, nonetheless. There’s never anything less than a crowd of frantically moving thumbs and friendly smiles among friends.

3. Seeing the scrub-wearing-students in the hallways and wondering if they’re nursing, dental, or massage therapy students.

It’s no surprise that you’ll see at least ten students sporting scrubs in the hallways. Said-scrub wearers know the purpose for their outfits, but it’s sort-of a fun guessing games for other students to wonder what they’re studying for, decoding the different colors of different scrubs. Elgin Community College has great programs for a wide-variety of things!

4. The moment you discover the dance studios in the Art building, a.k.a Building H.

The fact that you have a class in a dance studio (who knew we even had those?!) is something totally different, yet so totally awesome. It truly makes you feel like you’re the star of Broadway’s biggest musical! Depending on the class, the mirrors are sometimes covered, so you can’t always strut your stuff, but having a class in a non-traditional classroom environment makes for a lot of surprises, and a lot of fun.

5. The Professor Who Doesn’t Give An Accumulative Final.

Your eyes gleam at the syllabus when grades for the semester are discussed, and you see that all exams are split up equally, meaning a final, accumulative exam doesn’t exist. God Bless! A weight is lifted off your shoulders knowing at least a slight portion of a jam-packed semester is made much, much easier.

6. “You Can’t Graduate Without Taking College 101”.

A College 101 class is somehow only offered at the ungodly hour of 8 o’clock in the morning, making a less-than-exciting class even less enticing. It’s not uncommon for the class size to dwindle down to practically nothing, and sitting through a lecture that early in the morning calls for many late arrivals, coffee in tow. For those students who miraculously graduate without these credits, we applaud you.

7. Designated spots for designated people in designated lounges.

Talk about high school 2.0. Elgin Community College has numerous cliques of students who occupy a certain space of a certain lounge, mostly every single day. If you’re anything like me, you avoid these areas at all costs. If you actually have friends, and you enjoy interacting, then you’re most likely a part of said-groups.

8. G.I.G.O Students.

Creating an acronym for these students is what they deserve; they are the warriors of the campus, the hustlers, the two-job-workers, the dedicated-to-Netflix-students. The Get In, Get Out-ers. They get in, do their thing, then get out. They hardly socialize, they hardly even are aware that ECC has clubs and Student Life activities, and they hardly even care. They go to class, then go home. Or go to work. Or go to the gym. Or, they do whatever they want, just off campus.

9. Being a part of Student Life.

Elgin Community College’s student life is vast and diverse. Walking into the double doors of Student Life feels like a sanctuary of it’s own. Contrastingly to the G.I.G.O’s, the Student Life and various other club members really do enjoy their time on campus, and work to make active changes to the students’ lives. If you’re a part of one or more clubs, you know how inclusive student life can be, and how many various events are held weekly and how much free food clubs offer as incentive to attend!

10. The Impressive State of The Cafeteria.

If you’ve never stepped foot inside of Elgin Community College’s cafeteria, I highly recommend doing so. With a full salad bar, pasta options, smoothie bar, several varieties of chips and beverages, the cafeteria is no joke! most specialty entrees and baked goods are prepared by the school’s culinary arts students, which all look and taste equally impressive! Not hungry? Check out the full coffee stand, which serves Pete’s coffee!
