10 Fashion Hacks Everyone Should Know

It’s not always easy looking put together 24/7. Sometimes you just want to go out in your sweats and slippers because fashion is hard, but somedays you can’t seem to look good to save your life. Let these fashion hacks save you day after day! They will not disappoint.

1. Pilling

There is nothing worse than your favorite sweater pilling. Those little balls of fabric really show the wear and tear that a piece of clothing has. To ensure that your clothes always stay looking like new invest in a clothing pillar. They run around $20 on amazon and are a total life saver when your favorite sweater needs a freshen up. You can also try using a facial or body razor to remove those stubborn pills. Either way your old warn pieces are going to get a second life once you revamp them with the simple swipe of a razor!

2. Wrinkle Free Zone

Wrinkles are the number one killer to a good outfit. It doesn’t matter how stylish and chic you look, if your top has wrinkle, it kills the whole look. Here are a couple of ideas on how to keep your clothes wrinkle free and fresh. The first obvious tip is to launder your clothes properly. When investing in your closet, it’s imperative to take care of your clothes. If you need to get something dry cleaned make sure you take it to a good dry cleaner. Hand up your clothes right after they come out of the dryer to limit wrinkles. Lastly, I suggest investing in a steamer to give your clothes a freshen up before heading out. A quick handheld steamer can do the trick when in a pinch and they are decently affordable on amazon!

3. Monochrome

A fashion hack we love is monochromatic looks. It’s almost like a no brainer. All of your outfit pieces staying in the same color family and you instantly look put together? Yes please! It’s like fashion for dummies. This winter test out a classic sweatsuit with a chunky sneaker, streamlined coat and neutral belt bag. You could execute this look so many ways with a beanie or different shoe like a chunky boot. There are so many options when it comes to monochromatic looks because you get to go back to basics and play with textures and tones! Shop your own closet and see what you can create.

4. Fashion tape

Fashion tape is a total life saver when it comes to any gals wardrobe. Once you have those sticky slivers of tape in your life you will be able to see the endless benefits that they can bring to your life. You can use fashion tap to shorten the hem on your pants without sewing. Low cut top moving around too much? Stick some tape when you want the shirt to stay and bam! No nip slips tonight!

5. Bra Straps

A quick little tip to make sure you always look chic and effortless is to hide your bra straps. There are a ton of nifty little contraptions that you can use to conceal your bra straps. Another great use for fashion tap is to stick it to your bra straps and tank top straps. That way when you move around your straps will never show. You can also try out those hooks that hold your straps together for all of your racer back tops. Strapless bras can be uncomfortable and unflattering so try ditching the bra and use nipple flowers and fashion tape to make your girls look just as good without the bra.

6. Breaking in Leather

Investing in good quality leather pieces is essential to the foundation of your closet. However, breaking in leather isn’t always the easiest because of how stiff it can be. A tip we love that helps mold the leather to you is to blast the leather with a blow dryer for a minute or so. Once its heated up, go ahead and put it on and wear it around until the piece has cooled off. You can also purchase leather conditioner which keeps the leather soft and movable. The best way to get natural wear and tear, but these fashion hacks will work in a pinch.

7. Denim

Investing in good quality denim is a tip in itself! Good quality denim pieces are also an essential foundation piece for any closet. Although a bit pricey, a staple pair of jeans that you can wear with everything is invaluable. A great way to keep your denim looking fresh and new is to always wash them inside out. This way the wash of the jean stays true to its original color. Kourtney Kardashian also limits the amount she washes her denim by folding them up in a ziplocked baggy and sticking them in her freezer for 24 hours. She swears it totally kills any odor and a hack we’re waiting to test out. We’ll keep you posted!

8. Sizing Jeans

Another foundation piece in your closet is good denim and good fitting denim at that. A great tip we have is if you’re in a time crunch and can’t try on a pair of jeans try wrapping the waist band of the pants around you’re neck. If the two ends meet, then the jeans will most likely fit.

9. Count your pieces

This is a TikTok trend we saw and loved! This tip came from Elizabeth Fortmeyer who is a student in NYC who used to go to modeling school. Basically, you follow an 8-point plan where each piece of clothing is a certain amount of points. Simple pieces like a basic top, classic white sneakers or black boots, and jeans are one point. More standout and loud pieces are 2 points like a statement shoe, colored coat, or even funky accessory is 2 points. You want your outfit to range from 6-8 points, so you know it is interesting and well put together without being over the top and too loud.

10. Manage your closet

Having a fully functioning closet is more important than you think. Remember when we were talking about closet foundations? If you don’t have that foundation laid in the closet, then your outfits are not going to be the best they can be. A great tip to see what you’re utilizing in your closet is to turn the piece of clothing the opposite direction once you’ve worn it. After 3 months you can see which items you’re not using and replace them with key staples that you’re lacking.
