Easiest Ways To Achieve Natural Looking Makeup

With warmer months approaching, it can really be a pain putting on a full face of makeup, especially when it’s super humid. In the late spring and summer, I have found that natural looking makeup is the best way to go. Going to the beach, laying in the sun and swimming in the pool are a few activities that really require minimal makeup – or at least waterproof mascara. Even if my skin is sun kissed, I still find it fun to add a little glow with makeup! Here’s some simple ways to achieve natural looking makeup while making sure your foundation doesn’t sweat off during the day.

1. Tinted Moisturizer

Ever since I gave into the hype of buying a tinted moisturizer, I can’t go back. I have tried liquid foundation, BB cream, CC cream and concealer in the summer and have found myself always wishing I could wash my face while being out in public. The truth is, all of these products can be great and give you the look that you want, but sometimes the coverage can be too much and make for a cakey look, especially if you’re out and about in the sun. When it’s super hot and sticky out, or dry and 90 degrees, no one wants to be touching their freshly applied foundation. I always wanted to achieve soft, natural looking makeup, while still being able to wear the brands that I love. No matter if you prefer high end or drugstore makeup, there is a tinted moisturizer out there for you. I am a big fan of NYX’s “Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil.” It’s available in 12 shades, and can be found at Ulta, Walgreens, online, etc. Here’s why I love it, some makeup can leave you feeling dry even after you applied all your face oils, used your jade roller, and put on your moisturizer with SPF. What is so great about tinted moisturizer is that you can receive natural looking makeup while applying a soft liquid base that’ll leave your skin hydrated. Tinted moisturizer is obviously not as full coverage as a foundation stick or concealer, but like any product, it is buildable, depending upon how much you put on. If you feel like your makeup isn’t set with the moisturizer, you can still use a little of your setting powder or spray to achieve the look you want!

2. Eyebrow Gel

What I find difficult about hot weather and makeup, is that it’s hard to figure out exactly what look you want to go for, if you decide to wear any makeup at all. There is always a part of me that wants to go all out and do a whole makeup routine, but also I just want to do my eyebrows and hope they look good. It can be tricky going out with no makeup but still doing your eyebrows, only because lines might be noticeable if there is no foundation or concealer to put around them. A product that I considered a must have is eyebrow gel. I have found this to be a go to product if I just want to throw on something quick and leave the house, and it’s especially perfect for the summer. If we want to head out with our friends to eat lunch outside, or just chill in your pool, eyebrow gel is the best alternative to perfectly filling in your brows. Since it’s available in tinted tones and can be found from a ton of makeup brands, it’s easy to make your brows look brushed, clean and slightly darker without having any unwanted angles or smudges from eyebrow pencils. Don’t want to add any color to your brows? Try for a clear eyebrow gel, which will give you natural looking makeup at its finest, and keep your brows put all day!

3. Cream Blush / Bronzer

I can’t talk enough about how great it is that bronzers and blushes come in cream form. Sometimes we want and need to give our skin a rest. For days like that, and any day, cream bronzers and blushes are there for you. What’s so great about them, is that they are applicable with a brush or your fingers, and are just as buildable as a powder! Sometimes powder blushes and bronzers can leave a powdery finish if you apply too much, or it is not blended well. On the other hand, cream based products can leave your skin looking soft, bright and dewy. You can easily apply bronzer and blush, or just one of the two where you usually do on your face and blend with a brush or clean hands!

4. Tinted Lip Balm

Putting on makeup can be a joy, especially trying out new lip shades for daytime, nighttime looks and different outfits. I have always noticed for myself when I do a bold lip color, I want it to be a part of an entire look. But, tinted lip balm gives your lips some love, color and moisture without going all out. A couple brands I love for pigmented lip balms are Burt’s Bees and Fresh Sugar. Tones of purple, red, pink, and peach are within the range of colors for both brands – and even better, Burt’s Bees is natural and Sugar tinted lip balms have SPF in them. You can’t really go wrong with using lip balm anyhow, but achieving natural looking makeup can be easy and fun with a pop of color!

5. Mascara

Yes, mascara is a total staple product when it comes to wearing makeup. It is a life saver for making our lashes full but it can be worn by itself too. On days where I don’t want to try to perfect the winged eyeliner, or blend eyeshadow, mascara is the next best thing to wear by itself. It’s so easy to apply on the go, and can do a great job at making us look more awake even if we don’t wear any other makeup. If you’re going swimming and still want to put on makeup, try waterproof mascara.
