DIY Wine Cork Stamps

Wine corks are a handy item to have lying around your house because you can use them in a lot of different crafts (check out another use for them here). For this tutorial, you’ll cycle these old wine corks into stamps! And you don’t even need that many, depending on how many stamps you want to make.

You need wine cork (ones that are spongy and not dried out), a craft/x-acto knife, and a sharpie (thick and thin tip).

First draw the shape you want the stamp to be on the cork using your sharpie.

Cut around the shape using your knife, but you’re just puncturing it. Only slide the knife in about 1/4 of an inch. And you’re not slicing it it, you just ease it around the design.

Now cut into the stamp sideways, about a 1/4 of an inch down. Be careful not to  do this too forcefully or you could make the stamp crumble. Just cut around the design, not under it.

Start to chip away at excess cork with your knife. It’s always better to go slowly and make sure you do it right and don’t cut off too much, or else you will have to start all over again.

Once it’s fully cut out, test it. This will help you to see which areas you need to clean up or fix slightly.

And once you like the look of your stamp, you’re finished! You can make all sorts of designs. But be warned, these won’t come out like stamps you would buy at a craft store like Michael’s. They have some imperfections, but I think that’s all part of the charm.
