10 DIY Body Scrubs You Can Make At Home

Body scrubs can be so much fun to use and enjoy, but honestly, they can be even more fun to make yourself right in the comfort of your own home! With a few ingredients, you can make a lot of different scrubs with varying textures and fragrances and it can be even more enjoyable to use a scrub that you handcrafted yourself. If you want to give it a try, here are 10 different DIY body scrub ideas to get you started! These ideas are only starting points to get your creative juices flowing, there are so many different possibilities when it comes to body scrubs! Try your hand at these and see what you think!

1. Brown Sugar Scrub

Making a brown sugar scrub is really simple and it makes for a great natural exfoliator! If you like to bake, chances are you’ve got some brown sugar stored away somewhere at home. Brown sugar is great in a lot of cooking and baking recipes, but it’s also got some surprising benefits for your skin!

The granulated particles that make up most brown sugars are gentle on your skin but tough enough to clear away any dead skin and leave your skin looking and feeling soft and smooth. Additionally, brown sugar has antibacterial properties that help keep your skin looking radiant and feeling great!

2. Energizing Coffee Scrub

If you are a crazy coffee drinker like myself and can’t get enough of it, you’re going to love this easy body scrub idea! The coffee body scrub has grown a lot in popularity recently, and it’s easy to see why! Not only do most coffee scrubs smell like a delicious cup of coffee, but they have some great benefits for your skin and help to really wake up your senses and energize you when you use them!

The caffeine in coffee grounds has antioxidant properties that help to protect your skin from damage and can help increase blood flow, keeping your skin looking its best. Coffee scrubs make great natural exfoliators and can be mixed with lots of ingredients like coconut oil, honey, or olive oil to make a simple DIY scrub!

3. Honey Sugar Scrub

Doesn’t this one sound super delicious? This body scrub is super easy to make and honey works really well as a binder to hold the sugar together and give it that scrub-like texture we all know and love. You could use honey with many different natural exfoliators rather than sugar, such as oats, sea salt, or whatever you’d like! Sugar is the most popular exfoliator for sure, and it pairs really nicely with honey.

Honey and sugar have nice skin benefits making them perfect ingredients for a simple DIY body scrub! Honey is a miracle worker when it comes to skincare, keeping skin moist but not oily and providing lots of antibacterial goodness. And sugar gently scrubs away any impurities without being too rough!

4. Exfoliating Oat Scrub

Oats make a great exfoliator if you’re tired of the same old sugar scrubs. They can be combined with any number of other great ingredients that work as binders, such as honey, olive oil, coconut oil, or avocado oils. Oats make wonderful exfoliators that aren’t too rough to damage your skin, and the oats absorb any excess oils that could lead to acne!

Oats are full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that can help keep your skin looking and feeling healthy and beautiful. They help unclog pores and keep skin glowing! If you want to switch up your traditional sugar scrub, you could always try an oat scrub!

5. Sea Salt Scrub

Similar in texture to a sugar scrub, a scrub made of salts can make a great exfoliator! The most popular types of salt scrubs are made with Himalayan pink salt or sea salts! Combine sea salt with some olive oil or coconut oil or even honey to make a gentle scrub that will remove impurities and dead skin without being too brought to damage your skin.

Sea salt contains magnesium, which is great for treating dry skin and leaving your skin looking healthy and hydrated! Other minerals naturally occurring in sea salt can be super beneficial for acne or other common skin troubles, and it helps improve the overall health of your skin! I would recommend using this scrub only on skin that doesn’t have any cuts though.

6. Healthy Glow Turmeric Scrub

The health benefits of turmeric are becoming widely more popular and talked about, and you don’t have to ingest turmeric to reap these amazing benefits! Tumeric is amazing as a skincare product because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Turmeric can help your skin to really glow and leaves it looking healthier and more radiant! It mixes really well with sugar and honey, but you can use any sort of good binder and exfoliators that you’d like! You may be surprised by the effectiveness of turmeric as a skincare option, but it really can do amazing things for your skin!

7. Almond Scrub

Another great skincare and body scrub ingredient that you’d commonly think of ingesting rather than applying to your skin is almonds! Like turmeric, almonds have many benefits when used for skincare and make for a great body scrub that will leave your skin looking and feeling healthier than before.

Almonds are full of vitamin-E which is super beneficial to the skin and leaves it moist and hydrated without leaving it oily. Almonds can be used in simple DIY in a few different ways. You could grind some whole almonds up in a food processor and use that in your scrub as a natural exfoliator, or you could add some almond milk or oil to a sugar scrub! Almond milk and oil also have amazing benefits for the skin.

8. Green Tea Scrub

This scrub smells amazing! It’s no surprise that green tea has some really great benefits as a skincare product, that’s old news. Green tea has been used in skincare for a long time now because it has so many proven benefits! Using it in your own homemade body scrub makes for an easy and delicious-smelling scrub that can naturally whisk away impurities and leave you with soft, healthier skin.

Some of the green tea’s amazing skin benefits include fighting off bacteria, anti-aging protection, sun protection, preventing and treating redness and irritation, and treating acne! With so many amazing skin benefits, who wouldn’t want to go with a green tea scrub?

9. Coconut Oil Scrub

If you love the smell of coconut oil, you’ll love this easy-to-make body scrub. Coconut oil makes a great binder for a homemade scrub, and can be added to exfoliators such as sea salt, sugar, or oats! Coconut oil is moisturizing but won’t leave your skin feeling or looking oily. It helps to hydrate your skin and is great for anyone who has dry or flaky skin that they want to treat.

Coconut oil makes for a soft and gentle scrub that can be used all over your body, including your face, although repeated use of it on your face may clog your pores eventually. It makes a great body scrub!

10. Essential Oils Scrub

Possibly the most common way to make a DIY body scrub at home is to keep it simple with some sugar, some honey, and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. I like this one because of all the amazingly wonderful smelling scrubs you can make, but not a lot of essential oils offer a lot of the benefits that some of the other scrub ingredients can, like almonds or coffee.

If you’re looking for an essential oil that is great for your skin, go with lavender! It’s gentle and calming and can soothe irritated skin while softening it and leaving it looking happy and healthy. Tea tree and peppermint oils also have similar effects on the skin and can make a great addition to a DIY body scrub.

However you decide to go about making your very own DIY body scrubs, I’m sure you’ll be pleased with the result! These recipes are all super simple and can be made in minutes. They use natural and delicious-smelling ingredients and are much better for the environment than many storebought brands because of all the natural exfoliators! So, not only can you feel good about making them yourself, but you can feel good about your impact on out lovely planet!
