Yes, I am one of those chosen few who’s always freezing. Despite hating jackets I’m forced to bring one with me everywhere just in case and have faced the same cycle of concerns. Maybe it is poor circulation or just something I have to live with, but it is never noticed without scrutiny. Here are the most common comments you get when you’re always cold:
I mean if I knew what was causing it do you think I’d be wearing a puffer jacket in the middle of summer? In the winter you can shrug it off with ease because everyone around you is always cold, but you always get the need an explanation person around the warmer seasons. If you figure out the reason why please let me know!
This would be hilarious if I had ever smoked a day in my life! Everyone thinks they’re being original with this response but once the courtesy laughter fades away we’re left with an awkward silence.
After begging you not to touch you with your freezing hands in the winter, these people beg for you to cool them down in the heat. You are treated as a personal air conditioner with a disregard for all the comments they made before. Now my popsicle fingers come in handy and want to be taken advantage of. Not one of the most flattering reasons to be desired.
Maybe I have or maybe I haven’t but are you a medical professional? It’s not like I’m shivering around inside the house all day unable to live my life. If being always cold were posing a serious health issue you would be the first to know. Sure, my hands are always cold but that doesn’t mean you have to treat me like I have the plague.
This is the most well-intentioned comment. I love a nice hot beverage every now and then, but it is the least helpful suggestion when it is 85 degrees outside. Parts of my body might be cold but that doesn’t change the fact that I know it’s hot outside. The drink is only going to make me sweat which will cause even more concern.
The only thing worse than freezing hands are sweaty palms. Whether it’s mittens or gloves, that itchy material is not helping anyone. You end up with a drawer full of multiple colored material that withers away. Out here in California I think we’re safe from snow, so the gloves are going to be a no for me.
Heating pads, hot hands, gel you put in the microwave have all been tried to remedy the situation. If I could walk around in a blanket cocoon all day I still don’t know if this would be the solution.
A comment I gladly welcome from my significant other. They know you’re always cold and instead of trying to make you feel bad about it, they hold you and hopefully the ice melts away. Although the other comments may originate with good intentions, this is the only one that leaves me feeling better. Instead of the comments maybe just gift your cold friend a fluffy scarf or stylish coat.
