Best Ways To De-stress When Life Seems To Be Hitting Hard

Sometimes life seems to be coming at us so fast we can’t keep up. Whether it’s work, school, or our personal life, it is important to remember that we need to slow down and take some time for ourselves. Here is some good ways to de-stress and take a break from all the craziness you may be experiencing.

1. Laugh

As silly as it may sound laughing has proven to reduce stress hormones, artery inflammation, and increase “the good cholesterol” HDL. Think about your favorite show or movie to watch or maybe get together with some friends and have a nice night in to just laugh a little and not be so serious for a little while.

2. Take a walk

Exercising is known to be one of the most efficient ways to reduce stress. It’s hard to commit to an intense workout regimen but all it takes is just a walk as short as 10 minutes to gain some relief. Try and spend a couple days each week, even if it is on your lunch break, to take a walk and clear your head.

3. Get some sleep

You can never overestimate what a good night’s rest will do for your body. As hard as it may be to close your eyes and forget about all the things you have going on its important to lay it all to rest so that you too can rest. After all, when you get a night of good sleep, you will wake up the next morning refreshed and ready to conquer the day with a new mindset.

4. Eat well

When we are in a rush and have a on our plate it is easy to pick up some food or cook something real quick. Sure, mac and cheese or cookie dough will feed good temporarily but in the long run it will only hurt. Healthy eating can improve your energy as well as your physical and mental health. Try to throw in some fruits and veggies occasionally to help yourself out. You can even make something at the beginning of the week and use the leftovers throughout the rest of the week. Eating food that is good for you will make you feel more together and your body will definitely thank you.

5. Chew some gum

Studies have shown that chewing gum can reduce the stress hormone cortisol by a good amount during mild and moderate times of stress. Getting some gum is as simple as going to the nearest vending machine so why not try it? It has also show to improve attentiveness, so if you are stressed about a test or a big presentation chewing gum can actually help your focus while reducing your anxiety levels!

6. Unplug

We all know smartphones, laptops, TVs and video games are a huge part of modern day life. Sometimes it is important to turn off all electronic distractions not only so that you can focus but so that you are not constantly looking at a screen. It is nice to be able to kind of block the world out sometimes and forget about everything going on around you. Take some time to focus on yourself instead of your phone and you will feel much more peaceful.

I know firsthand that when you are stressed out it is hard to imagine taking time to stop and breathe or focus on something else. With that being said, it is so beneficial to take time away so that we can feel good about what we are doing and give it our best. Doing something while stressed is not fun AND you won’t get the best results either. Whatever may be going on, take a minute and take care of yourself…I promise it will be worth it!
