Best Travel Destinations For Live Music This Summer

Summer is a time to relax and have fun with your friends. So what would be better than getting all your friends together to go on a trip of a lifetime? Travelling through Europe has always appealed to many travellers. Yet, your trip will be even better if you have time to see some of your favourite bands. Ditch the guaranteed rain in Britain and get yourself to some of the best travel destinations for live music. Below we have listed what we think are going to be the events you won’t want to miss. Get there or suffer the dreaded FOMO, while you see others do exactly that.

Budapest, Hungary

Sziget festival is located in Budapest, Hungary and runs from 7th– 13thAugust. The festival started in 1993 and aims to provide 1000 acts across 60 stages for 7 days straight. Sziget has become a household name in the European festival market, as they are able to pull in big selling artists. This summer there is a world of choice for everyone. The line-up is jam-packed with big names such as Ed Sheeran, Macklemore, Florence and the Machine, Razorlight and many others. If you want to find yourself at a festival that represents 100 different nationalities, this is it. Not only do you get to enjoy some seriously good live music, but you also get to check Budapest off your bucket list too. What more could you want?

Split, Croatia

From the 12th– 14th July, Split becomes home to electronic dance music. In the form of the Ultra- Europe Music Festival. This festival is now part of Destination Ultra, which hosts events all over Croatia for 7 days. This festival invites electronic music fans from all over. Croatia is a beautiful country and you will most likely be dancing in the sunshine at this outdoor event. This summer, people will be able to see The Chainsmokers, Alesso, Afro Jack and David Guetta to name but a few. If you’re a reveller and don’t fancy the rain at Creamfields, this is a great travel destination for live music.

Madrid

If you don’t fancy heading too far from the UK but are craving the sunshine along with your live music, maybe Spain will have something for you. Madrid is home to the Mad Cool Festival on the 11th of July until the 13th of July. This festival is cheap in comparison to its British counterparts and your promised great acts. In 2019, you could be seeing The Cure, Noel Gallagher, Vampire Weekend or The 1975. The wonderful part about the Mad Cool Festival is that acts don’t start until 6pm. This is great when you have travelled abroad with your friends, as you can catch up and relax during the day before partying at night. Clearly, this is your festival if you’re a night owl.

Belgium

Tomorrowland Festival bounds into the small town of Boom, Belgium on the 19thJuly and departs the 28thJuly. This is another electronic dance music festival. First held way back in 2005, this festival’s name has become a legend. People all over the world come to experience this event. The main stage is a new work of art every year. The sheer artistry makes you catch your breath the first time you set eyes on it. Even before anyone is playing on it.  Tomorrowland hosts Camelphat, Michael Sanchez, Cosmic Gate and many more, this summer. So if attending a legendary music festival is on your bucket list, get a plane ticket booked and get yourself to Boom.

U.K

It would be unfair if I didn’t mention a UK Festival on this list. Glastonbury is legendary and for good reason. It’s running from the 26th– 30th June and boasts huge names this year, like it always does. This year it features The Killers, Snow Patrol, Miley Cyrus, George Ezra and new act Lewis Capaldi. Glastonbury’s vibe always seems abuzz with excitement despite the overcrowding. This festival is also an ethical one. In the midst of an environmental crisis, a festival that welcomes green initiatives is definitely a must. This is one for people who can’t afford to go far and wide but have some disposable income for the expensive ticket. Either way, it will be a weekend to remember, even if it is just for the acts.

Are there any travel destinations you think are the best for live music? We’d love to know. Go on, tell us.
