The amount of restaurant options to choose from in Gainesville are endless. Archer road alone has everything you can think of and more. If you’re on a budget and looking for new places to try, consider these restaurants that have students at the University of Florida drooling over their taste
1. Blaze Pizza
You can’t help but feel exciting energy when you walk in. The employees are full of positivity and want to keep their customers satisfied from the moment they walk in to the moment they walk out. With the help of their joyous employees, picking the perfect meal for you will be easy. Cooked right in front of you with endless amounts of cheese, meats, vegetables, and sauces to choose from, once you eat Blaze you’ll never settle for anything less.
You’re not a true University of Florida student until you’ve had Relish. Sorry, I don’t make the rules. If you’re looking for a top notch burger, Relish is the place to go. 100% fresh and never frozen meats, even vegetarians can enjoy Relish with their tasty veggie burger option. Dancing the night away at Midtown will wear you out and make you hungry. Luckily, Relish is open late and only a short walk away! Download the “Gift Certificates and More” app to eat Relish at a discount.
Civilization is known for their “World Wide Wednesdays.” Each Wednesday, Civilization offers meals associated with different countries. All produce items are from local farmers because Civilization believes strongly in supporting the Gainesville community. All beef and seafood served come from Florida, and there are vegan/vegetarian options too. Whether it’s dine in, carry out, or even catering a special event, this hidden diner will have you begging for more.
PDQ stands for “people dedicated to quality.” While this statement is true, I’d like to think it stands for “pretty damn quick” since your food is handed to you immediately after you place your order. It’s is the prime definition of deluxe fast food. There are many options of milkshakes, sandwiches, salads, and sauces. PDQ is unique because it has different choices compared to other fast food places like zucchini fries, sides of feta tomato salad, hand squeezed lemonade, and mint Oreo milkshakes.
5. The Top
Located in downtown Gainesville, The Top is a restaurant with a nice atmosphere and much variety. This makes it a really fun place for University of Florida students to go to. There are meal choices for people who follow different dietary needs such as vegan, vegetarian and gluten free. There are seafood and Italian meal choices as well as the classic build your own burger, grilled cheese, salads, pastas, and more. For my herbivore friends, The Top has an insane amount of options for you to choose from: the eggplant rollatini, basil pesto, tofu, black bean cakes, and even vegan chocolate cake! Every Sunday, The Top also has an all-day brunch option that draws in huge crowds each week.
Peach Valley is stellar. It is a restaurant that serves high quality breakfast and lunch. From waffles to patty melts, you are a guaranteed a five-star meal. Let’s not forget their iconic iced peach tea too.
Another tasty pizza option for University of Florida students! Satchels is a restaurant everyone must try when in Gainesville. You can’t go a day in this city without seeing some of the famous Satchel’s bumper stickers on cars. Pretty close to campus, Satchel’s is famous for their pizza, but they serve salads and calzones too along with their famous homemade sodas! The setting is unique compared to other restaurants. The quirky decorations and the option to eat your meal in the famous “Satchel’s van” is priceless. Eating pizza in a van, could you ask for a better date night?
“Jamaican me crazy” over Reggae Shack! Reggae shack is a Jamaican style restaurant that wants to “wake up your taste buds” with all the options of flavor and spices at your fingertips. What makes Reggae shack special is the fact that it’s different and people can try new foods they aren’t familiar with. Let’s be honest, it’s not everyday you enter a town with a Jamaican food option. From Caribbean hot wings to vegan steak, Reggae Shack can’t disappoint.
9. Metro Diner
It is as tasty as everyone says! Metro Diner serves classic American breakfast and lunch items and is known for having “big portions and small egos”. Metro Diner was also featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Even Guy Fieri approves.
10. La Tienda
La Tienda serves traditional and authentic Mexican food all for a great price. This place is always poppin’ because so many locals know about their quality food items. The empanadas and enchiladas are some of the most popular items on the menu. La Tienda is by far the best Mexican food you’ll find in Gainesville.
